The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week full-time Sustainability Transportation Manager to join our Sustainability team. This is an opportunity to join a well-run city and play a part in serving our community with further opportunities for professional growth. We are seeking a steady individual with solid communication skills to collaborate with our Sustainability Director and to act as a resource for the Planning Division, Public Works Department, South Portland Bus Service, and all City departments.

**Position Summary**: The purpose of this position is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with South Portland’s transportation sector and manage the City’s sustainable transportation efforts. The Sustainability Transportation Manager will work under the Sustainability Director and work closely with the Planning Division, Public Works Department, South Portland Bus Service, and all City departments.

The position will have two primary focuses: developing incentives and building the infrastructure needed to transition to electric vehicles and facilitating a substantial mode shift to public transportation, biking, and walking. It will also include, to a lesser degree, broader initiatives in sustainability, planning, municipal operations, anti-idling, and alternative fuels.

The position will have a strong emphasis on education and outreach, garnering support for City policies and programs, and working with the One Climate Future team to promote sustainability initiatives. It will also frequently include representing the City at relevant regional and state-level events and meetings, building partnerships designed to achieve South Portland’s transportation goals, facilitating inter-departmental coordination, and presenting in front of the City Council and various City committees.

Work is performed under the guidance and direction of the Sustainability Director. The position has no direct supervision of any permanent staff, but may have seasonal responsibility to direct the work of student interns.

**Education**: Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, urban and/or environmental planning, sustainability, or a related field required.

**Experience**: Two years’ work experience related to sustainability or transportation required. Experience with outreach and education, program development, and report writing preferred. Experience with Windows/Microsoft Office platform for daily work and GIS software for data management and visualization also preferred.

This is an hourly position with a 37.5 hour standard schedule over a four day week, with the option of remote or in-office flex time on Fridays. Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work hours outside normal office hours including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.

**Salary Range beginning July 1, 2024**: $29.26 - $31.40/hour ($57,060 - $65,035 annually) depending on experience. This position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
