POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Night Crew Lead
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Store Director

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
To assist the Store Director in planning and managing the Grocery Department
and to assist with daily production and operational functions.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is on assisting in Grocery Department planning and
execution. Primary challenge is in effective stock ordering, stock crew supervision and
implementation of merchandising plans. Position assists Store Management in
department planning and provides backup assistance in absence. This position requires
ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing,
math, moderate to heavy lifting, operation of forklift, pallet jack, ordering machine and
box cutter. Position functions and hours may vary according to business needs.
Assignment and work direction are provided by the Store Director or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
1. Provides friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity, patience and
respect in all customer interactions.
2. Throughout the store, greets customers in a genuine and friendly manner. Learns
customer names and uses them respectfully in greetings.
3. Assists customers throughout the store by:

- Escorting them to products they are looking for
- Loading or unloading heavy items and assisting with products that are out of
reach
- Offering product and/or recipe suggestions and recommendations
- Responding to customers’ questions and requests in a timely manner
- Treating them as the most important people in the store
4. Sincerely thanks customers for their business and choosing our store.
5. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working and
shopping environment.
6. Organizes, directs and assists work of Grocery stock crew
- Plans department priorities and objectives by shift with Store Director and
communicates to department associates
- Implements and maintains merchandising plans timely and consistently
- Ensures department conditions (product availability and placement, display to
shelf stocking, facing, rotation, cleanliness and safety, price stickering and
signing) are maintained properly
- Directs associates to ensure completion of tasks and efficient labor use
- Reviews production worksheets and maintains production graphs to ensure
goals are met
- Ensures readiness of department for daily sales

7. Orders aisle stock for Grocery Department
- Ensures orders are placed in allotted time
- Maintains familiarity with movement of key items and ensures a minimum of
over and under stock
- Communicates with vendors effectively
8. Monitors and assists in receiving functions and backroom organization
- Ensures correct piece counts and processing of invoices
- Ensures receiving records and drop sheet book are properly maintained
- Monitors organization of stored product to ensure efficient access and clear
passageways
- Ensures security procedures are followed
9. Assists customers and monitors to ensure proper service levels and courtesy from
all associates
- Assists or delegates associates to assist customers with special orders, questions,
price checks, and product exchanges
10. Monitors store conditions in the absence of Store Director
- Ensures proper customer relations, service levels, store presentation and
store security
- Provides associate supervision and work direction as appropriate
11. Assists in managing department safety and sanitation programs
- Ensures maintenance and sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related
safety rules and procedures are followed
- Conducts safety inspections and maintains checklist
12. Assists with department personnel functions
- Assists with training and development of associates
- Assists with performance reviews
- Assists with corrective action administration
- Communicates and works with management as appropriate to above functions
Functional Requirements
Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying 15 to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling 50 to
2500 lbs., equipment operation (ordering machine, telephone, intercom, register,
forklift, pallet jack, box cutter, flatbed, compactor), stooping/bending, walking,
standing, squatting, reaching, climbing stairs, turning
Mental - judgment/decision making, reading, writing,
memorization, social skills/verbal interaction, math
Occasional: Physical - lifting/carrying over 50 lbs., sitting, climbing ladders,
working above floor level, walking on uneven ground, crawling
13. Follows all store and department policies and procedures
14. Education and/or Experience
15. -High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution)
preferred but not required
