Houston, United States Medical Pathology Associates Full time

This is an opportunity to join a company that provides pathology services. We are looking for a full-time histotech. This employee will be responsible for embedding, cutting, special stains (both by hand and automation), immunohistochemistry (by automation), and send outs to reference laboratories. Attention to detail, organization, and accuracy are key components as this role impacts every sample entering the lab.

**Location**: Houston, TX (Medical Center area)

**Key Job Functions**:

- Produce diagnostic materials as requested by the ordering physician. These materials may be generated in any of the following processes:

- Processing, embedding, microtomy, and routine hematoxylin and eosin staining
- Rework to include recuts, special stains, and immunohistochemistry staining
- Send-out testing to reference laboratories
- Progresses diagnostic material through work queues in the laboratory information system
- Abides by quality processes and procedures for each process in creating diagnostic materials
- Document laboratory instrumentation maintenance activities
- Maintains inventory and orders supplies as needed
- Professionally managing issues if they arise and communicating with staff and management
- Be a reliable employee who comes to work every shift with a positive attitude; even under periodically stressful conditions
- Responsibly solve problems and know limitations / ask questions when in doubt about something
- Maintain a clean and organized space and follow appropriate standards for personal protective equipment and work areas
- Be very detail oriented and maintain strong focus throughout the work shift
- Work independently and with team members
- Be flexible with schedule; some days may be longer or shorter depending on amount of cases and work may be needed outside of scheduled hours
- Be willing and able to learn new skills and take on additional responsibility
- Demonstrate strong communication skills
- At times, handle multiple responsibilities and tasks simultaneously
- Write and type efficiently and accurately
- Work proficiently with computers and computer programs (including the laboratory information system), and office equipment
- Maintain client confidence and protecting operations by keeping information confidential and complying with HIPAA requirements

**Education**:
**Required**: High school diploma or GED

**Strongly preferred**:

- Associates or Bachelors in related science or successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program - or
- Associates, Bachelors, or accrued credits in the amount of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 24 hours equally divided between biology and chemistry.

**Certification**:
**Required**: Valid registration as a Histotechnician HT(ASCP) or Histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) via the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or equivalent.

**Desired**: In addition to HT or HTL certification a QIHC(ASCP) - Quality in Immunohistochemistry is of value.

**Experience**:
**Required**: 1 year of full-time compensated experience within the last ten years under the supervision of a certified Pathologist or an appropriately certified medical scientist.

**Preferred**: 2 years of full-time compensated experience in a high-volume working histology lab.

**Compensation**: Competitive and commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications

**Job Type**: Full-time

**Salary**: $25.00 - $34.00 per hour

**Shift differential**: An additional $3 per hour between 10:00pm - 5:00am
