**The Organization**:
**Librarian II (Adult Services)**
- The Coronado Library was founded in 1890. At the current Orange Avenue location, the original building dates to 1909 and is still in use as the Spreckels Reading Room within a 40,000-square-foot remodeled and expanded state-of-the-art library facility.

Located across from Spreckels Park, the library is at the heart of Coronado. Coronado High School, Middle School, and Village Elementary are all within a short walk and the youth services unit is expected to work closely with local schools.

The library has a vibrant program of events every month across various spaces including the Winn Room, Ruby Room, and Conference Room. There are large exhibit cases in both adult and youth areas. There is also a Digital Media Lab that includes 3-D printing, digitizing equipment, and specialized software for video and podcast editing.

**The Position**:

- Under direction, the Librarian II performs a variety of professional library functions involved in assisting Library patrons with their informational needs including reference duties; manages a specific Library collection of significant size and complexity; oversees the work of library staff as assigned; and provides assistance, education and information to the public regarding Library use and services.
- This classification serves as the specialized journey level within the Librarian series to recognize responsibility for developing and managing a specific Library collection that is considered significant in terms of size and complexity. Positions within this classification are also responsible for performing other librarian duties including reference desk help. This classification is distinguished from the Senior Librarian in that the latter assumes functional supervision of a division of the Library.
- The following tasks are typical for positions in this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here:_
- Research, evaluate, and recommend the purchase of books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, and electronic resources for assigned Library collection; review available publisher's materials, critical reviews, and periodicals; maintain awareness of trends in book and electronic publishing through reading appropriate library and related journals.
- Determine patrons' needs through the reference interview process; identify appropriate sources for obtaining books and other materials that the Library does not own; suggest resources from within the library's collection or from other libraries.
- Assist Library patrons of all ages in locating various materials; explain use of automated catalog systems, indexes, and databases; recommend materials to patrons using standard bibliographic sources; locate materials on the shelf.
- Plan, develop, and implement recurring as well as seasonal programs and activities including author talks, the Coronado Community Read events, book clubs, music concerts, and lectures on current events.
- Promote Library services and resources through the use of exhibits, tours, clubs, outreach, and the media; prepare informational handouts for public distribution including calendars and flyers.
- Lead, plan, train, and review the work of clerical and volunteer Library staff; train assigned employees in their areas of work including technical and clerical library methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Troubleshoot technical problems with computerized and mechanical equipment; provide personalized computer search services using various on-line services and indexes.
- Seek grant or private funding for special Library programs.
- Develop a newspaper index for the community newspaper; edit and index weekly news articles and events; provide training to library staff and volunteers; provide public access.
- Develop and maintain a directory of selected internet sites; collect, organize, and maintain a file of useful websites; revise directory as needed; provide training to Library staff and volunteers.
- Participate in the preparation and maintenance of displays; and volunteer participation.
- Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, typewriter, telephone system, copy machine, facsimile machine, and other related equipment.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of library science.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

**Minimum Requirements**:
