**Glimpse of the Job**

The Student Development Specialist III is responsible for the full-time advisement of the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG). The position is devoted to the needs and concerns of the GPSG supervising the Graduate Student Body President and the Student Research Week (SRW) student director. Additionally, the position oversees the Grad Camp Director, the Speaker of the Senate, the Elections Commissioner, a student leadership body of 3 additional officers and 6-8 committee chairs and assists directly in all aspects of the Government’s activities. Provides professional and supervisory skills for developing, planning, promoting, and implementing student developmental programs, activities, and/or services.

**Salary Range**:$46,500-$50,000/Annually ( Commensurate based on hire's experience.)

**Qualifications**

**Required Education and Experience**:

- Bachelors’ degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with Bachelor’s degree, with two years of experience in Student Affairs

**Preferred Education and Experience**:

- Master’s in Student Affairs or related area
- Graduate work in student development advising or experience and knowledge of advising graduate students

**Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Knowledge or cross-cultural communication
- Knowledge of graduate and professional student development

**Responsibilities**:

- **STUDENT ADVISING - **Serve as the primary advisor to the Graduate and Professional Student Government. Attend governance board and senate meetings. Meet one on one with officers and members as appropriate. Support and advise a governance board of 15-20 members. Provide support and guidance to the election commissioner assisting in the implementation and execution of the annual campus-wide election process. Serve as a staff liaison/point of contact with campus-wide administrative offices.
- **EMPLOYEE SUPERVISION - **Supervise and advise the Graduate Student Body President, as well as, the Student Research Week Director. Assist with the formation and advising of the Student Research Week committee. Supervise other aspects of the Graduate Student Body President and the Student Research Week Director commitments. Attend regularly scheduled Student Research Week meetings, including all funding meetings. Support the external responsibilities of the Graduate Student Body President by keeping open communications with appropriate campus-wide administrators and administrative offices.
- **PROGRAMMING - **Advise, coordinate and assist in facilitation of Graduate and Professional Student Government programming efforts, including Grad Camp, Inter-disciplinary dinners, quarterly graduate student travel awards, and the annual awards banquet. Manage, coordinate and facilitate Graduate and Professional Student Services Programs, including Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, Grad Mentors, and Graduate Student Wine Tasting. Provide oversight and support for Student Research Week, a week-long research event focused on undergraduate and graduate student competition in both oral and poster sessions; as well as plenary sessions.
- **PUBLICATIONS/WEBSITE - **Advise the Graduate and Professional Student Government related publications, marketing, communication, and website development. Oversee the production of the monthly coordination and distribution of The Nth Degree newsletter.
- **LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT - **Coordinate training and activities that enhance the graduate student leadership experience focused in communication, team building, and conflict management. Assist in the total development of the Division of Student Affairs through participation in University, Division and Departmental committees and task forces. Attend, collaborate and serve on relevant committees which may include the following: (1) Graduate Council, (2) Graduate Operations Committee and (3) Graduate Orientation.
