**Job Overview**

Under general supervision of the Starting Towards Excellence in Preschool Supervisor, the position of the STEP Consulting Teacher is responsible for providing direct early childhood instructional support to the STEP teachers. The STEP Consulting Teacher will support the STEP Supervisor in ensuring curriculum implementation and support of the STEP program’s initiatives. The STEP Consulting Teacher will work side-by-side with classroom teachers and teaching teams to support individual and programmatic needs. This position will also be responsible for designing and delivering quality professional development on the utilization of effective instructional strategies and bringing evidence-based practices into classrooms.

**Roles and Responsibilities**

- Administer and analyze data as determined by the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observation assessments per Virginia Department of Education requirements
- Teach, model, facilitate, and build teacher capacity to utilize early childhood research-based best practices to support student learning
- Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data results; analyze program data and authentic student work that identifies content strengths and weaknesses that can be used to identify areas of need for professional development
- Collaborate with the STEP Supervisor to create the program’s professional development plan, structure related to coaching, and identify specific measurable and attainable benchmarks for teacher and student performance
- Meet regularly with the STEP Supervisor to report on instructional practices and progress
- Collaborate with the STEP Supervisor and building principals to discuss program goals, offer opportunities to build family partnerships, and identify school-specific program needs
- Organize processes and procedures for transition to Kindergarten

**Education**

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred

**Experience**

Demonstrated successful teaching experience

**Licenses and Certifications**

Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license

Holds Certification in Early Childhood Education

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Has demonstrated successful teaching experience
- Has knowledge of what constitutes effective teaching and learning
- Has demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills necessary for building strong rapport and relationships with teachers and administrators
- Has excellent oral and written communication skills
- Uses a team approach and collaboration to accomplish tasks and promote collaboration to improve instruction and student learning
