**Purpose of Position**:
Under direction, implements, monitors, evaluates, and participates in the development of nursing educational programs, including nursing orientation programs, and other developmental activities in an assigned health care setting. Conducts training and ongoing competency assessment to align nursing educational opportunities with health care setting goals, operational standards, and educational priorities.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Coordinates nursing educational programs and activities for an assigned health care setting; provides continuous education and training to nursing staff; and assesses educational needs of staff.
- Participates in planning and conducting nursing staff development programs.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates in-service nursing orientation; maintains a system of records of in-service orientation, staff development, and educational activities; and monitors and submits all other mandatory work and regulatory reports.
- Identifies and collects information related to learning needs and collaborates with members of multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective nursing education and training programs; serves as a resource for all nursing educational inquiries and issues.
- Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals and objectives of the health care setting to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance.
- Assesses learners’ progress, and interprets appropriate information necessary to revise and/or adjust the orientation, competencies, lesson plans, educational activities, and teaching techniques, as needed.
**Nurse Educator Standard Work**
All Educators are responsible for providing educational support to all staff on a daily basis and to report weekly/biweekly progress towards meeting required patient safety goals that meet all regulatory and hospital-wide compliance as follows, but not limited to:
**1.GNO educators facilitate Staff and Agency orientation to completion inclusive of the following**:
- CD2 / SHINE Modules (both completed before GNO release)
- Facilitate equipment skills training completion as required for the following:
- EPIC /PYXIS/NOVA/Other POCTs/12 Lead EKG/Phlebotomy etc.
- Unit specific required training e.g. Basic EKG Arrythmia & PCA Surveillance, Mock Codes.
- Complete all onboarding staff folders and files them at GNO completion
**2. Unit Based Educators**
- Completes orientee needs assessment, and in collaboration with orientee, preceptor and unit leader plans unit based orientation to provide ongoing and incremental support.
- Conducts annual needs assessment and analysis based on required 4 point risk criteria.
- Completes competency validation of all unit specific skills in SHINE (onboarding and on an annual basis).
- Attends daily AM/PM Huddles and Handoff processes for observation and correction of educational gaps.
- Interprets the organizational goals, mission, vision, and policies to the staff while providing the knowledge and skills required for their successful implementation.
- Utilizes findings from Performance Improvement activities, trends in health care and professional nursing practice, regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines, etc. in developing and designing educational offerings/programs.
- Incorporates adult education and learning principles.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and learning modalities.
- Integrates evidence-based findings in clinical practice, policy/procedure and educational activities.
- Participates in hospital-wide education activities, as required.
- Facilitates the initiation and adoption of changes in nursing practice and the organization.
