POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assistant Project Scientist Position in Oceanic Modeling, UCLA

The Center for Earth Systems Research at the University of California Los Angeles seeks an assistant project scientist to be supervised by Prof. James McWilliams and Dr. Jeroen Molemaker, contributing to
efforts to model circulation and biogeochemistry in the context of marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR).

The ROMS code is written in Fortran, so knowledge of Fortran is highly advantageous but not required.

Required skills:

- Ph.D. in geophysical or engineering science
- Proficient in working in a Linux environment
- Knowledge of high-performance scientific computing and either computational fluid mechanics or a related field
- experience with distributed-memory, parallel computing
- Ability to work with oceanic scientists on code development
- Good interpersonal skills
- Thorough knowledge of Fortran or another language like C or C++

Recommended skills:

- Knowledge of Linux operating systems
- Proficiency in Python scripting
