Work and Family Life Consultant

**Duties**:
Incumbent serves as a non-clinical consultant and facilitator on a wide variety of work and family life issues and concerns. Provides informative and tangible advice, assistance, and instruction to address customer concerns, needs and requirements associated with Navy life, including but not limited to life skills training, suicide prevention, family violence prevention, transition from military to civilian life, relocation, deployment/separation, and career resource development.
Transition Assistance Program: Facilitates and conducts program components related to the separating of military members and/or family members following a full or partial military career. This includes coordinating presence of Department of Labor, Department of Veterans Affairs, Small Business Administration who conduct a variety of training in support of the Veterans Opportunity to Work Act and other legislation, Transition Assistance Program and various other Navy-related initiatives designed to prepare Service Members for success in civilian life.
Career Resource Development: Assist clients with career, occupational, volunteer and educational issues by delivering services, individually and in groups, to equip clients with career/job search skills. Uses appropriate career inventories and aptitude tests to help clients identify goals. Develops a plan that recognizes the individual's personal and vocational needs and assists the client in outlining milestones to achieve those goals.
Relocation Services: Assists clients, individually and in group, with relocation issues including the new area's cost of living, schools, housing, childcare, sponsorship, exceptional family members, and personal problems such as relocation stress, cultural adaptation, and disruption of social and family ties. Identifies and addresses the individual adjustment needs providing counseling referrals when appropriate.
Deployment Support: Conducts deployment support services to include pre-, mid-, and post
- educational briefings. Addresses the specific concerns and needs of service members and their families in coping with extended separation. Provides command consultation and support, information resources and referrals, deployment and mobilization support, ombudsman support, and life skills education.
Personal Financial Management: Conducts information and referral to personal financial managers for assistance with money management, debt liquidation, and consumer affairs through a range of services to include workshops. Refers as necessary to Legal, Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society and other helping agencies. May teach financial workshops, as requested by supervisor.
Life Skills and Resource Support: May provide life skills training in individual, small, or large group settings on a variety of topics that enhance personal and family readiness. Provides referrals for specialized support and follows up on actions to ensure appropriate linkage. Trains support staff and participates in unit activities (e.g., staff meetings and family support group activities), as appropriate.
Command Representative and Marketing: Completes required cross-training and meets criteria to be knowledgeable about all FFSC programs. Conducts unit needs assessments, compiles and analyzes data, provides feedback to chain of command, and coordinates services based on needs. Consults with and/or briefs leadership to keep them informed of trends and issues. Provides General Military Trainings (GMTs) within specific areas of responsibility.
Utilizes various computer software programs in researching, networking, and/or exchanging information and establishing files, such as Fleet & Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), Military Installations (MI), Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System (NFAAS), TAP Events Plus, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Connect, and other FFSC databases and online platforms as directed by supervisor.
Develops, coordinates, conducts (in person and virtually), and evaluates workshops and seminars for clients within specific areas of responsibility i.e., Career Development, Deployment, Relocation, etc. Develops local networks with military and community agencies to enhance program delivery. Works independently or with other FFSC staff to develop course curricula and prepare accompanying resource materials. Organizes and implements initiatives, such as job fairs and executive career study groups that invite prospective employers to the installation.
