Leave Management Supervisor

**Overview**:
The Department of Human Resources (DHR) has an exciting opportunity for someone with strong knowledge of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the VT Parental Family Leave Act (VTPFLA) to supervise and coordinate the functions and operations of the department’s Leave Management Unit (LMU). Additional knowledge of the leaves of absence outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and State Policies and Procedures would also be highly valuable.

This position will be responsible for managing an average full caseload of 100+ cases through the lifecycle. This includes eligibility checks, sending required notices, reviewing medical certification documents, making approval/denial decisions based on documentation. This position also provides guidance and support to managers and employees to address any inquiries or issues related to the designated FMLA. The duties of this position would also routinely handle confidential medical data and track employee leave usage through the running of queries and reports to ensure leave usage accurately corresponds to leave status.

The Department of Human Resources currently supports a hybrid work model. While regular (weekly) on site work should be expected, requests for some telework each week will be considered.

**Environmental Factors**:
While duties are performed mainly in a standard office setting, an incumbent may need to attend meetings in a variety of settings. Short notice of critical meetings, tight deadlines and the need for rapid response can be assumed. Some travel may be required, for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required. Strong opinions may be encountered on a regular basis. Incumbent must use diplomacy and tact in dealing with difficult cases.

**Minimum Qualifications**:
Five (5) years or more of experience in human resources, including one (1) or more years of experience administering labor and employment laws and regulations such as the Family Medical Leave Act, VT Parental Family Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and/or the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, Workers' Compensation.

OR

Two (2) years or more as a Leave Management Specialist II.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Supervisory or team lead experience.

Associate’s degree or higher in human resources, business management, or related field.
