Sapphos Environmental, Inc., an environmental consulting company located in Pasadena, California, is seeking a Paleontological Resources Specialist. In business for over 30 years, Sapphos Environmental, Inc. continues its mission to provide environmental compliance services to both public
- and private-sector clients. This full-time, exempt position encompasses technical, project management, and marketing responsibilities.

**KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Prepare paleontological resources reports, including, but not limited to, Paleontological Resources Mitigation Plans and Paleontological Resources Technical Reports
- Manage paleontological resources mitigation, including, but not limited to, macrofossil salvage, microfossil salvage, sample collection and preparation, specimen identification and analysis, and recording
- Perform impact assessments based on applicable federal, state and local laws, including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Conduct literature reviews and museum records searches for projects
- Make recommendations to federal agencies and clients regarding the status of resources identified during fieldwork
- Manage and conduct paleontological resources construction monitoring
- Participate in marketing outreach and development of proposals, project budgets, and schedules
- Participate in field work (must be able to work in field for extended periods of time in support of projects located in the western U.S.)

**REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS**
- Knowledge of local geology and paleontology with paleontological field experience in the state of California
- Must meet the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology’s 2010 criteria to be defined as a Qualified Professional Paleontologist (Principal Investigator, Project Paleontologist)
- Must meet the criteria to be approved as a “Field Agent" on the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Paleontological Resource Use permits
- Ability to create stratigraphic sections, interpret geologic maps, and describe geologic formations, soils, and processes in detail and assess geological formations for their paleontological sensitivity
- Data management and geographic information systems (GIS) experience
- Must be physically able to hike for long distances in possible weather
- Possession of a driver’s license and a good driving record

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
