**Description**:
The beautification of Fairfax City parks, trails, and greenspaces is heavily supported by community volunteers. This position organizes volunteer information, schedules volunteer events, and coordinates with Fairfax City Parks Crew members to support a variety of volunteer efforts.

This position requires an individual who is self-directed, works well with individuals of diverse backgrounds, and enjoys working outside. Working under the direct supervision of the Parks Manager and Parks and Recreation Director, this position is responsible for the coordination of community volunteers in City parks, trails, and green spaces. Volunteer activities primarily take place outside of traditional work hours.

**Examples Of Duties**:
Works closely with park staff to maintain program documentation, social media posts, and shifting priorities at park sites, as needed.

High degree of public service experience desirable to include working with community groups (HOAs, Scouts, civic associations, etc.) and individuals.

Schedule often dictated by volunteer schedules so must be flexible and able to work nights and weekends; as-needed.

Volunteer management and/or supervisory experience and experience working with the public preferred, as well as experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with deadlines.

**Qualifications**:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Experience managing volunteers; and working with members of the community, government officials, business owners, and city staff.

Valid Virginia Driver’s license with no active violations in the past 3 years.

Criminal background check.

**Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:
Organizational skills required to collect and collate volunteer information.

Communicate effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to follow City safety regulations.

Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment required by the work.

**Additional Desirable Qualification**:
Experience and interest in gardening, native plants, and landscaping.

Many volunteers are local youth. An interest, and ability to work with people of all ages is preferred.

**Special Certifications and Licenses**:
Ability to obtain CPR and AED certification within one year. Provided by employer.
