Biomedical Technician

Under the overall direction of the Director of Clinical Engineering and the Senior Biomedical Technician, the Biomedical Technician performs safety inspections, repairs, calibration, and preventive maintenance on a variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic biomedical equipment. The Biomedical Technician provides technical support on operating principles and potential risks associated with the use of medical equipment to all end users.

**EDUCATION**:
Associate’s Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or related technical field required.

**WORK EXPERIENCE**:
Two (2) years field experience in a JCAHO accredited facility preferred.

Performs safety inspections, repairs, calibration and preventive maintenance on a variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic biomedical equipment in accordance with all applicable standards and regulatory bodies.

Maintains maintenance history records and prepares reports as required.

Improves or make special test setups to conduct functional checks of biomedical test equipment.

Provides a systematic preventative maintenance program for biomedical equipment and related systems. Ensures compliance with electrical safety and standards for medical equipment.

Provides technical assistance and instruction to facility personnel in the maintenance and operation of equipment. Recommends the purchase or acquisition of biomedical equipment or related accessories. Advises supervision of equipment deficiencies as required.

Repairs non-biomedical equipment as appointed by the Director of Clinical Engineering (Pool Pak, augmentative communication devices, toys, facility-owned power wheelchairs, elopement alarms, nurse calls, patient education channel, etc.)
