Retail Buyer

As a Retail Buyer at Defender, you will play a crucial role in our operations by building strong relationships with vendors, managing inventory levels, and collaborating with various teams to ensure product availability, competitive pricing, and profitability.

**Qualifications**:

- 2+ years of work experience in product retail management, buying, or another related role.
- Advanced computer skills - a high proficiency level in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with project management tools
- Outstanding time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Professional in demeanor and appearance. Have a positive disposition.
- Associate degree or 3-5 years of equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Marine/Boating experience preferred.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Extremely detail oriented.
- Ability to switch focus between tasks and work with frequent interruptions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and stay organized. Self-directed.

**Responsibilities**:

- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with vendors and other industry contacts.
- Negotiate key items such as pricing, payment terms, and programs.
- Analyze data and trends to identify new opportunities or potential issues with inventory or pricing.
- Use available tools to make seasonally appropriate buying decisions.
- Create and manage purchase orders to ensure timely delivery.
- Monitor and adjust pricing strategies to maximize sales and margin contribution.
- Monitor stock levels and effectively manage inventory. Develop and execute a plan to reduce overstock. Work with vendors on inventory rebalances.
- Stay informed about industry trends, new vendors, and market competition.
- Attend trade shows to meet suppliers and research new products.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team on product introductions and promotions.
- Provide ongoing support to all teams as needed to ensure a positive customer experience.
