**DESCRIPTION**:
The UCSD Mathematics Department is a dynamic unit with 67 faculty, approximately 40+ additional non-FTEs in various instructional and research titles. These academics work on a broad range of research funding from a diverse range of federal, state, and private agencies. The department is comprised of 19 career staff, and 180 Master's and Ph.D. students, and over 2400 undergraduate students. All working together to generate high-caliber research in a broad range of fields and provides an outstanding graduate program that attracts top-ranked students who contribute to the department’s academic reputation. The department maintains a large undergraduate course of study that prepares pure and applied majors (over 2400) in Mathematics, as well as 57 other majors across the campus, with the strong fundamental background in mathematics needed to succeed in a variety of career options. The faculty are engaged in a vigorous research program with an average of 72 active awards in many interdisciplinary areas totaling approximately $20M/Yr. and an instructional program that enrollsapproximately 30,000 graduates and undergraduates per year. As the fundamental language of science, mathematics is an essential intellectual tool required by a trained workforce to create the technological advances of the future.

The department is the home of The Center for Computational Mathematics (CCoM) consists of a broad and diverse group of faculty, researchers, and students, who share a common interest in the mathematical aspects of computation. The department is also the home of the Director of the Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project an intersegmental education project in California

Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), serve as the AP/HR and Operations Manager. Exercise leadership and discretionary authority to negotiate and/or solve managerial and programmatic concerns, utilizing a high degree of independence, ingenuity and analytical skills to resolve complex, unusual and non-routine problems or issues.

Oversee all aspects of AP/HR (including labor relations) for the Mathematics Department including 142 academic personnel with 21 different academic titles, 26 staff, 175 graduate academic student employees, and 69 undergraduate academic student employees.

In collaboration with the CAO, perform operational audits of departmental programs and administrative activities; recommend and coordinate operational changes to enhance work performance.
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with academic personnel processes related to recruitment, appointment, and salary review; knowledge of Unit 18 Policy (Memorandum of Understanding - MOU); and knowledge of University International Center's Visa procedures and policies and immigration laws pertaining to foreign scholars; knowledge ofLabor Certification process and permanent residency procedures.
- Skills, knowledge, and experience in Human Resources practices. Extensive knowledge of full range of payroll policies, and compensation. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience in personnel practices, counseling, recruitment, affirmative action, staffing, performance management and conflict resolution, classification, compensation, employee benefits, labor relations, corrective action and disciplinary methods, labor agreements, and the ability to interpret and administer bargaining agreements and UC policies.
- Demonstrated experience in job analysis, classification, and compensation. Must possess deep knowledge of classification and compensation policies, with the ability to objectively analyze information and make responsible and appropriate classification and compensation recommendations. Must possess knowledge of the best practices of classification and compensation.
- Possesses strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex problems, conduct research, interpret trends, identify various options, draw conclusions, develop and implement innovative and cost effective solutions that meet the objectives of the department despite competing and changing priorities.
