Computational Scientist in Single Cell Genomics

The Technology Innovation Lab at the New York Genome Center seeks a dynamic, self-motivated, team-oriented **Computational Scientist** to expand dry lab efforts in understanding disease mechanisms. We are interested in developing integrative multi-modal data analysis tools incorporating single cell omics data, imaging data, clinical phenotypes, variants and genotypes.

**Responsibilities may include**:

- Develop new computational, machine learning, and statistical analysis methods for integrating and analyzing large-scale, scRNA-seq, CRISPR and genotypic data using current state of the art technologies;
- Develop a resource for the community that gives access to collected data;
- Independently design, develop and execute a research project, with input from senior members of the team;
- Maintain significant knowledge of the current, relevant scientific literature, and communicate key developments to other lab members to ensure competitiveness of the group;
- Work closely with experimental colleagues and cores to understand the nature of generated data;
- Coordinate efforts across multiple organizations (Flatiron Institute, Columbia University and New York Genome Center);
- Actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and present at scientific conferences;
- Assist in peer
- and student-mentorship; and
- Share expertise and provide training and guidance to group members as needed.

**Requirements & Qualifications**
- Relevant PhD degree required in computational biology, computational neuroscience, applied mathematics, computer science, or related discipline required, with a strong bioengineering and/or molecular biology focus.
- Extensive knowledge, experience and publication record of modern molecular biology and/or chemistry tools required, including next-generation single cell sequencing methods;
- In-depth conceptual or technical understanding of modern high-throughput molecular technologies in the life sciences (such as RNA-seq, WGS, scRNA, spatial transcriptomics, imaging, pooled/sc CRISPRi) required;
- Proficiency in large scale data analysis and algorithm development for instance using machine learning, Markov chain, Bayesian, dynamic programming, graph analysis.
- Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages such as Python, C/C++, R, Stan.
- Proficiency in analysis tools such as STAR, BWA, cellRanger, spaceRanger, ilastik or similar required;,
- Proficiency in designing and developing analytical bioinformatic approaches that can extract biologically meaningful data from complex datasets.
- Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills required;
- Experience writing scientific articles for publication required;
- Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time required; and,
- Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills, and willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment required.

**Salary**

The expected salary for this position is $100,000-105,000 per year, and the full pay range for this position is $95,000-115,500 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, NYGC offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits as well as generous time off.

**About the Technology Innovation Lab**

The Technology Innovation Lab at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) is led by Dr. Sanja Vickovic, who holds a joint faculty appointment in Columbia University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Technology Innovation lab is a dedicated incubator for the development and early-stage evaluation of new genomics tools and methodologies. It serves as a creative hub for generating new technologies, protocol development, equipment evaluation and informatics tool development/integration.
