**MCPS Official Job Description**
**SUMMARY DESCRIPTION**:
Under direction and general supervision, employees in this classification may serve as the acting manager in elementary and secondary schools. Class also works as a cafeteria worker for absent employees. As acting manager, work is performed on a relatively independent basis, sometimes working alone. In larger schools, acting managers give directions to other food service staff, resolve human resources issues, and perform other duties regularly performed only by managers.

**CERTIFICATE LICENSE**:
Valid Class C noncommercial driver's license. Sanitation certification required or obtain this certification during the first six months of employment.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES**:
Working knowledge of food preparation, serving and food service sanitation procedures. Ability to follow directions and input required reports. Ability to care for, maintain, and operate equipment, including a computer. Ability to account for cash receipts. Ability to give clear directions. Ability to work with students, teachers and school leadership staff demonstrating these core competencies described in the Supporting Services Professional Growth System: commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication and organization skills, and problem solving competencies. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

**EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE**:
High School or GED diploma required. Preference given to applicants with certification in food safety, food safety training and prior food service experience. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Must obtain a qualifying score on the food services satellite manager test.
