Analytical Chemist

**Job description**:
Brightside Scientific is a full-service cannabis testing laboratory in Long Beach, CA. We offer Compliance and QA testing panels (Cannabinoids, Pesticides, Mycotoxins, Heavy Metals, Residual Solvents, Terpenes, and Microbials, plus more) for California’s cannabis microbusinesses, distributors, cultivators, and manufacturers to ensure safety before consumption for medical/recreational purposes. We are CA State Licensed by the Department of Cannabis Control and ISO 17025:2017 Accredited.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Accession samples into a LIMS system and ensure to meticulously check COCs, METRC, Manifests, Tags, with samples received into the lab.
- Know how to homogenize samples of all matrices received in the lab accurately and without cross-contamination or compromising the sample.
- Perform sample preparation and analysis of cannabis and cannabis products by LCMSMS, GCMSTQ, GCMSSQ, ICP-MS, and HPLC following detailed policies and procedures in the company’s SOPs.
- Carry out method development and execute method validation of any new studies in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements.
- Review chromatographic and QA/QC data ensuring it meets established criteria and upload/interface final results into the LIMS.
- Submit non-conforming work to the Corrective Action/Preventive Action workflow.
- Work with the Technical Director and Laboratory Director to prepare and review SOPs and other controlled documentation for QA/QC Management.
- Perform routine calibration and maintenance of instrumentation.
- Work with a team of scientists in a fast-paced environment to design and implement analytical techniques. Help troubleshoot when needed for any instrumentation.
- Be able to prepare technical reports and help lead any projects.
- Be able to conduct Internal Audits/Mock Inspections.

**Additional Duties May Include**:

- Cross-training staff and help dynamically schedule where work is needed.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelors degree in relevant field and demonstrated technical proficiency with GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and/or HPLC.
- Experience in a regulated environment (DCC, ISO 17025, GLP, or GMP).
- Experience in a cannabis or environmental testing lab.
- Accuracy and attention to detail and maintain efficiency and productivity to help meet TAT.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience writing SOPs and CAPA Reports.
- Experience with Shimadzu instrumentations, Lab Solutions, and Insight.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office-Excel, Word, & Power point.
- Experience developing methods for extraction and sample cleanup for difficult matrices, process improvements, and working in a clean organized environment with GLP.
- Experience with LIMS (LABDAQ/Confident Cannabis).
- Experience maintaining and/or repairing LC-MS/MS/GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, & HPLC instruments (Shimadzu).
- Experience with METRC and how to accept/reject orders.
