A Lab Technician is needed with Industrial Wastewater experience. GC, MS or ICP experience a plus.

**JOB SUMMARY**

Responsible for analysis and reporting of various sample and process wastewaters, materials and products, such as oil water emulsions, Fuel Oils, Distillates, etc. This is an environmental and recycling lab, not a clean product lab. Work will require the ability to navigate analytical on off spec and dirty samples. Responsible for approving wase streams into the facility based on permits and regulations.

Participates in activities of the Industrial wastewater and oil/water recycling plant laboratory; accurately and precisely performs chemical, emulsion breaking and bacteriological analysis of samples and makes microscopic examinations; prepares chemical solutions; reads, interprets, records, and reports on results of investigations.

**Specific responsibilities**:

- Responsible for conducting laboratory analysis, utilizing various analytical instruments, GC and ICP, using ASTM or STD methods procedures.
- Understand and keep current with all laboratory safety and reporting techniques.
- Complete all laboratory reports as applicable.
- Understand and keep current with all laboratory analysis methods.
- Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Position requires a dependable and reliable individual; whose daily presence adds to the success of the department.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
- Assist in calibrating laboratory instruments for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
- Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in best practices, operating manuals and company safety policies.
- Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into spread sheets and process software
- Verify sample taking methods appropriate to provide representative samples to lab for analysis. May take samples if needed, or to verify proper sample in trouble shooting inconsistent results.

**Qualifications**
- Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques used in conducting chemical and bacteriological test and analysis. Tests include BOD, CBOD, COD, TOC, TSS, MLSS, Food to mass ratios, Ammonia Nitrogen, Alkalinity, percent solids/moisture, X-ray Fluorescence metals, organic chloride, BS&W, pH, Dissolved Oxygen, temperatures, BSW, Organic Chlorides.
- Skills/Abilities: Must be able to conduct chemical and bacteriological lab test and analysis unassisted and work with limited supervision and instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ability to record data, maintain records and compile reports.
- Knowledge of PC, printer, computer spreadsheets and word processor programs.
- Physical Requirements: Constantly sees, hears, stands, uses physical dexterity, use of measuring equipment; frequently bends, walks, cleans, and carries objects weighing up to 30 lb. Must be able to climb stairs or ladder as needed to be able to take or verify samples or sample taking methodology.
- Education/Experience: Graduation from high school supplemented by college course work in Biology and Chemistry, BS in Chemistry, Biology or related field preferred.
- Ability to understand ASTM standards and procedures.
- Must be able to work with wastewater, chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum products.
- Must be able to differentiate colors accurately by sight.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must be willing to work overtime and some weekends if required.

**Working Conditions**:
Position is at a wastewater treatment and oil recovery plant laboratory and involves working with wastewater and oils in various stages of treatment. May be exposed to noise, dust, unpleasant odors, and conditions inherent in a wet chemistry lab. Most work will be inside lab but may be required to take process samples from the plant outside.
