**Job Title**: Self Setup Press Operator

**Department**: Automatics

**Reports To**: Department Supervisor

**Direct Reports**: None

**Role Purpose**:
The automatic press operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and tending of a primary and secondary automatic press machine used to bend, form, pierce, cut and stamp metal material to meet product specifications.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Capable and willing to perform full die setups on an automatic mode metal press.
- Capable and willing to train others to run and setup presses.
- Setup and maintain edgers on the press.
- Start and shut down machines.
- Utilize various tools to remove and set dies into press.
- Load steel into de-coiler with electric winch.
- Adjust metal fed to length required by part number.
- Run press in automatic or manual mode.
- Perform part quality inspections using appropriate measuring devices or gauges.
- Observe machine operation to detect defects or machine malfunction.
- Follow factory job travelers as specified, unless otherwise instructed by Supervisor.
- Read job specifications, part prints, operator instructions to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Communicate with material handler on needs for material, die, finished goods, scrap, and parts containers to be sent for plating.
- Visually measure and inspect completed workpieces to verify matching part numbers.
- Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications.
- Immediately report defects, mis-hits and/or operating difficulties to Supervisor.
- Communicate with toolroom and other press operators to troubleshoot part issues.
- Clean automatic press machines as needed.
- Complete all paperwork on inspections and operations in an accurate, legible, and timely manner.
- Keep work area clean, neat, and orderly such as picking up slugs/scrap as needed.
- Adhere to all company safety regulations and report any safety concerns to Supervisor.
- Train other employees as directed by Supervisor.
- Follow standard work instructions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

**Requirements**:

- High school diploma, G.E.D or the equivalent.
- Basic math and writing skills.
- Ability to communicate quality or mechanical issues.
- Strong mechanical ability and passion for machines.
- **Preferred but not required**:_
- (4) years of machine and/or stamping press operation experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
- Ability to read a blueprint.
- Forklift operation experience.
- Experience training or coaching others.

**Physical Requirements**:

- Must be able to lift 40 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently.
- Required to stand, walk, pull, reach, and bend to the floor.

**Working Conditions**:

- Above average noise levels requiring hearing protection.
- May be exposed to dust, fumes, and skin exposure to oils.

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
