- The Rescue Instructor is responsible for teaching various rescue courses within the TEEX-ESTI Rescue Training Program to include Confined Space, Rope, and Trench certification courses. Utilizes knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. Uses a variety of media to present course material and modify the course curriculum, when necessary, to meet learner needs.
- The Instructor reports to the Training Manager.
- Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.-
- Four years of related experience in Technical Rescue operations.-
- One year of adult education and/or training.- Other Requirements:
- Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.-
- Must have a valid passport or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.- Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten years related experience in the field of rescue.-
- NFPA 1041 Instructor I or equivalent or nationally certified in the field of rescue.-
- Trained in NFPA 1006 Rope, Confined Space, Trench Rescue, Auto extrication, and Swiftwater Rescue.-
- Pro Board Rescue Certifications preferred.-
- Class A CDL.- Physical Requirements:
- Physical conditioning consistent with using SCBA/SAR, climbing, crawling, and lifting heavy items while performing rescue training.- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Specific knowledge in teaching confined space, rope, trench rescue certification courses, auto extrication, water rescue, and industrial rescue.-
- Ability to remain current with all local, state, and national standards and regulations relating or rescue operations.-
- Good interpersonal and classroom management skills.-
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.- Equipment:

- This position is security sensitive.-
- This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.-
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.-
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.-
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.-
- This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.- Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

- Rescue Training - 65%- Travels to training location, which includes local and domestic travel with occasional international travel.-
- Arrives at least 30 minutes before the course is scheduled to begin.-
- Follows approved curriculum course outline and timelines to conduct various forms of rescue training courses.-
- Performs all course exercises as explained by the Instructor Guide.-
- Ensures all participants have achieved the terminal objectives of the course.-
- Ensures all training materials, teaching aids, and classrooms are prepared for clients.-
- Secures all training materials, training aids, and classrooms after training is completed that day.- Rescue Program Course Review, Revision, and Development - 20%- Creates and revises training course lesson plans.-
- Reviews student instructional materials and visual aids to determine course relevance.-
- Updates course syllabus as necessary.- Customer Relations - 15%- Contacts customers and ESTI staff before the beginning of the course to ensure all logistics are finalized.- Other Duties:
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with staff and students.Follows all dress codes associated with your work activity (i.e. travel, workshop, in-office, etc.).-
- Safely conducts training for self and the students.-
- Assists other Division programs as assigned.-
- Participates in team meetings and events.-
- Follow TAMUS/TEEX Policies and Procedures.-
- Performs all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and agency Safety requirements.-
