NORTH JERSEY COMMUNITY RESEARCH INITIATIVE
Job Title: LGBTQ Harm Reduction Worker/Specialist
Reports to: Manager of PRIDE Center
Shift: Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Implement Interventions Delivered to Individuals (IDI), as described by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDOHSS), Division of HIV/AIDS Services (DOH).
2. Enter IDI sessions into the NJCRI’s designated electronic health records.
3. Conduct Effective Behavioral Intervention (CLEAR) to increase condom usage among the target population who visits the Pride Center
4. Maintain attendance sheets and group notes for every group and client session conducted.
5. Conduct substance use disorder and mental health screenings; intake and make referrals to appropriate service providers and track linkages.
6. Assist in managing the daily operations of the PRIDE drop in center.
7. Assure that client services are provided in a safe orderly manner.
8. Maintain records including daily log of participation and supply inventory.
9. Provide referrals when requested to other services such as mental health, substance use disorder treatment housing etc
10. Identify and refer clients in need to affordable and safe housing opportunities.
11. Prepare monthly reports to be submitted to Program Manager
12. Interact with other service providers to enhance coordination of services and referrals to various programs.
13. Assist in evaluation and improvement of program services.
14. Participate in staff meetings with the Manager of the program along with community meetings.
15. Foster and preserve a strong team spirit among program staff and volunteers.
16. Enhance one’s professional abilities via continuing education.
17. Duties may change based on the needs of the organization.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. (Minimum high school diploma required, associate degree preferred) at least 2 years’ experience providing health education and harm reduction-related services in a community-based setting. A minimum 1 year experience working with persons with substance use disorder and mental health problem.
2. Familiarity with High Impact Prevention and other LGBTQ health care service provision.
3. Should be well organized, self-motivated, and committed to working in a diverse LGBTQ environment
4. Must be familiar with and believe in a harm reduction philosophy
5. Must be a leader, team player and able to work effectively with a large variety of personalities and abilities
6. Ability to communicate and present to the public effectively both verbally and in writing
