Elementary Associate Teacher

Walden School is seeking a full-time Elementary Associate teacher who is self-motivated, innovative, and supportive of the school's mission.

Associate Teachers support the mission of Walden School by encouraging inclusion, embracing diversity, and establishing collaborative partnerships with students, parents, and faculty rooted in respect for cultural differences, family configurations, and various parenting styles.

Over 50 years ago, Walden was founded with a child-centered, progressive approach that seeks to nurture children's natural wonder through inquiry-based and experiential learning. In multi-age classrooms (Pre-K, K/1, 2/3, 4/5, and a self-contained 6th Grade), teachers collaborate with their grade-level colleagues to plan and implement Readers and Writer's Workshop, Bridges Math, and interdisciplinary and experiential Social Studies units.

With a solid and historic commitment to social-emotional learning, Walden is known for helping students become compassionate community members while developing the confidence to find their voice and advocate for themselves.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

- Support the Lead/Specialty Teachers in classroom, curriculum, and student matters.
- Help maintain attendance and other written or electronic records as directed by the Lead Teacher.
- Assist in carpool responsibilities at arrival and dismissal times as assigned.
- Actively supervise core classes at snack, lunch, recess period, and other times when the Lead Teacher is out of the room, including scheduled and unscheduled absences.
- Defer to Lead Teacher in parent communication; respectfully direct parents to the Lead Teacher if approached by a parent.
- Support classroom events and trips including, but not limited to: day trips, camping or overnight trips, dinner meetings, presentations, and performances.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment and materials.
- Observe student behaviors and step in when appropriate, communicating student progress or concerns with the Lead Teacher.
- Maintain order and manage the class in a subtle and non-disruptive manner during lessons; work with the Lead Teacher to preserve and protect studies.
- Provide consistent support for students on remedial skills or extensions.
- Act in a way that exemplifies and models the school's expectations of respecting personal dignity, commitment to conflict resolution, and diversity.
- Assist in students' development of independence at various developmental levels.
- Attend meetings and training sessions for position, classroom, or grade level when invited.
- Work collaboratively with ALL members (i.e., children, parents, leaders, specialty teachers, administrators) of the Walden community to provide support as needed.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
