**Job Summary: The **Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) will be a key leader on the SJCS nursing team. The ADON will collaborate with the Director of Nursing in leading innovation and ensuring the highest standards throughout the department. The ADON will be responsible for implementing department wide initiatives that align with company-wide strategic goals and vision. The ADON will lead by example by being an excellent communicator, detail oriented, and a proven driver of change. The ADON will also provide direct management for the Triage and well-being, Care Coordinators, and Nursing Coordinator.

**Essential Functions**:
Services under the responsibility of the Director of Nursing include both administrative and clinical duties. These duties shall include, but will not be limited to:

- Provides maintenance of monthly medical notes, nursing assessments and other documentation related to medication use, general health status, and emergency procedures for assigned caseload (Virginia).
- Consults with physicians, pharmacies and other medical personnel on individual needs and relays necessary treatment information to staff to ensure follow-up on such needs.
- Conducts monthly observations of individuals identified with acute/significant medical needs and follows Medical Services review, providing documentation as applicable/required.
- Mentor and coach DSP with medication management training as outlined in the regulations of the specified State
- Lead department meetings in collaboration with DON and other agency leaders
- Assist DON in operationalizing larger strategic visions across all nursing departments
- Proactive analysis of departmental needs by staying abreast of current nursing trends in value-based environment and understanding provider workflows and where nursing support could be beneficial
- Promote and model continuous self-development and professional growth to maintain knowledge of healthcare trends and practices
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned

**Secondary Functions**:

- Serves as a liaison to family, Circle of Support, service coordinators, case managers and other external parties regarding health care plans of individuals served. Ensures nursing representation and involvement in all required interdisciplinary team meetings and regulatory or licensing reviews.
- Ensures coordination and implementation of medication management and administration to include ordering, distribution, and monitoring of all individuals’ medications.

3. Ensures coordination and implementation of quality assurance systems that result in timely follow-through of all medical appointments, treatments, consultations and health services. Ensures that nursing care and related documentation meet or exceed SJCS-VA and regulatory standards.

4. Responsible for ensuring the adherence to all nursing/medical licensing and regulatory requirements. Responsible for developing plans of correction for any quality assurance or licensing deficiency associated with health care services.

5. Responsible for the development and maintenance of a medical emergency response plan for each program within SJCS - VA.

6. Develops, implements, reviews and revises policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of health services.

7. Assists in the development of an annual budget and adherence to fiscal guidelines for nursing services. Monitors performance of nursing services in relation to budget and intervenes as needed to bring into alignment.

8. Serves on the SJCS agency-wide and VA management teams in coordinating quality services and support for individuals served.

9. Seeks revenue producing opportunities to enhance SJCS-VA operations and to diversify/expand SJCS-VA’s service base.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Ability to lead, guide, direct and oversee nursing care operations/services.
- Ability to provide 24/7 coverage for program;
- Knowledge of best practices in nursing care for individuals served.
- Ability to provide discipline-specific, clinical supervision in accordance with professional and ethical standards. Ability to use sound judgment when making decisions;
- Skilled in verbal and written communication

**Education and Experience**:
**1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required.**:
2. A BSN or higher Degree is preferred.

3. Must possess a current Registered Nurse license in good standing with the District of Columbia or another state with which the District has reciprocity.

4. Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising nurses (RNs and LPNs) in a clinical or community health care setting.

5. Minimum of 3 years working with individuals with intellectual or other disabilities.

6. Must possess direct knowledge of federal and local regulations applicable to nursing and health services for individuals served. Experience with or knowledge of District of Columbia Waiver regulations preferred.

7. Must meet SJCS and funding jurisdiction current requirement
