North Suburban YMCA is seeking an aquatic assistant who thrives in a fast-paced, fun-loving Aquatics department.
- Job Description

Assists the Aquatic Director by providing excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Helps maintain staff management and scheduling including, fills-in where needed, and assists with events and YMCA functions throughout the year.
- Qualifications
- Experience in aquatic programming or aquatic facility management
- 2 year coaching and/or swim instructor/lifeguard experience 6 months of supervising experience, preferred- Essential Functions
- Demonstrates the standards by which all lifeguards/staff must perform, trains staff as needed to bring the standard up, and maintain team atmosphere. Knows, understands, and helps train others on safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the aquatics area and building.
- Assists in, training, developing, scheduling, and coordinating aquatic staff and volunteers. Assists in reviewing and evaluating staff performance. Helps with new lifeguard and swim instructor orientation.
- Aids in scheduling lifeguards/staff and ensures all shifts are covered by staff and fills in as needed.
- Assists in monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations. Performs equipment safety checks and report to supervisor.
- Participates in aquatic and Y events, trainings, in-service trainings, and meetings. Help conduct Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, First Aid and CPR trainings as needed.
- Provides on-deck supervision to lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatic staff under the direction of the Aquatic’s director.
- Ensures the safety of members and program participants. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Teach group and private swim lessons as needed. Create and follow all lesson plans, communicate with parents as needed, and provide a fun, engaging atmosphere during all lessons.
- Lead the Swim Team program, which includes the practices and meets, supervision of assistant coaches or volunteers, team communication, and working with parents/families.
- Computer duties include entering in programs, class roster, registration, vouchers, transfers, and withdrawals.

Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.

- Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (Employer-provided training, if not already certified
