**Position Summary**:
**JOB SUMMARY**

A fully functional 9-1-1 Telecommunicator who is responsible for dispatching calls to emergency service providers and who has demonstrated their ability to accept responsibility to learn additional dispatch positions. Specifically, this refers to learning dispatch positions other than the portion of the communications center they mastered as a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator II. Since this is a position of learning, an employee in this class may not remain in this position indefinitely. The employee must progress to a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Specialist.

**REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS**:
Work is performed under the general supervision of the 9-1-1 Communications Supervisor.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**

Efficiently operate computer systems, telephone systems, and radio equipment in a timely manner while working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.

Efficiently navigates the PEMA approved protocols in a timely manner by correctly determining the caller’s situation and its corresponding protocol and then communicating instructions to the caller and dispatching the incident in a fast
- paced, multi-task environment.

Act decisively to accurately process requests for service and information in a timely manner in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.

Employee will compose and enter the information from the caller and radio into the correct format for entry in the computer aided dispatch system.

Responsible for entering the caller’s information received into the computer aided dispatch system and queuing the "call" to the appropriate 9-1-1 Telecommunicator.

**OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES**:
Must present a proper appearance in accordance with LCWC Handbook Section 4.4.

Receive and transmit messages through radio, telephone system, and computer system that pertain to local, state, and federal public safety agencies.

Verifies and composes, computer entries, and hit confirmations in the computer system operated by the Pennsylvania state Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation, as required.

Responsible for being attentive in all forms of instruction including classroom instruction, direct supervision and on the job training.

Other duties assigned by the 9-1-1 Communications Supervisor (s).

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:
High School diploma or equivalent.

Mastered the skills of a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator II.

9-1-1 Telecommunicator II for at least two (2) years at LCWC.

Satisfactory completion of the 9-1-1 Telecommunicator II examination and the 9-1-1 Telecommunicator II competency examination.

Two (2) satisfactory employee evaluations. The employee must progress to a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Specialist.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
Must be able to provide your own transportation to meetings, trainings, appointments and able to access those locations with reasonable accommodations.

Participates in continuing educational activities and meetings outside of normal business hours, as required.

Exhibit strong teamwork skills and must process co-workers input, both positive and negative, in a professional manner.

Employee must be able to adapt to an ever-changing, fast-paced, multi-tasking work environment, and must be able to talk out differences and express opinions with co-workers and management staff.

Maintains regular and predicable attendance in accordance with LCWC Employee Handbook Section 7.1.

Project a positive image when interacting with the general public and municipal, county, state, and federal officials and agencies.

The ability to work calmly and efficiently in a variety of situations.

The ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, general public and emergency service providers.

The ability to grasp instructions.

Must be supportive and cooperative with LCWC staff, public safety agency personnel, public officials, news media, and the general public at all times.

Sound knowledge of emergency service station identifiers, and their locations.

Sound knowledge of geographic locations within the county including fringe areas of bordering counties.

May be required to work outside of normal business hours to attend meetings or in an emergency situation.

**REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES**:
Must successfully obtain the following re-certifications; CLEAN, CPR, PEMA, JNET, PEMA Approved Protocols.

A person in this position may not have been convicted, plead guilty, or plead no contest to a felony or serious misdemeanor.

Must successfully complete an agency created knowledge and competency exam for recertification every three years.

Must consent and pass a drug screen.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT**:
An employee in this class must be able to communicate, sit, stand, walk, reach, and twist frequently. Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time wearing a telephone headset while using computer equipment. Employee will troubleshoot PSAP equipment, as well as other computer and building systems
