As an integral part of our team, the Veterinary Assistants help maintain the flow of the veterinarians’ appointments seen throughout the day. Communicating clearly and concisely is a necessity, as the assistants are responsible for being an advocate for the pets and educating the owners as to what preventative care is needed and getting the medical histories as to the owner’s concerns. The ideal applicant will have a positive attitude and possess a strong attention to detail, personal responsibility, and maturity. Compassion and professionalism are a must. This is a physically demanding position as you are handling, lifting, and caring for animals while on your feet all day. You will be exposed to unpleasant odors and noises, along with handling the cleanup of blood, feces, and urine.

**Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities**:

- Assist Veterinarians and LVTS for exams and treatment of patients
- Provide compassionate care
- General care (feeding, walking, bathing, and cleaning) of the patients
- Sterilization and cleaning of kennels, equipment, and entire hospital
- Communicate in an effective and professional manner with clients
- Medical record keeping
- Fill prescriptions
- Perform laboratory work and assist with diagnostic imaging
- Checking in shipments and inventory of stock
- Client education
- Follow written and verbally communicated standard operating procedures
- General housekeeping and performing laundry
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Veterinary Assistant Qualifications**:

- 1+ years of experience working in a veterinary practice or animal shelter
- Ability to work independently, as well as be a team player
- Flexible work style amidst shifting priorities; calm under pressure
- Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts
- Maintain open mind regarding changes, be willing to learn and teach new protocols
- Excellent client service skills

**Veterinary Assistant Physical Requirements**:

- Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds repeatedly throughout day.
- Must be able to work standing for 10 or more hours.

This position does require late evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must have open availability for schedule. Salary is negotiable depending on experience and we offer a great benefits package.

Pay: Up to $17.00 per hour
