PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide maximum physical activity time within the class period, teach skills and activities that transfer into lifelong health and wellness.

2. Educate students about proper nutrition, safety, mental health, physical education, wellness promotion and health services

3. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.

4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the district’s basic philosophy and congruent with the PA standards; Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroup of students.

5. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Implements by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the Physical Education areas and Health classrooms.

7. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety check on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.

8. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.

9. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

10. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

11. Recognize the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.

12. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

13. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

14. Communicate their expectations to students and families and work with them to ensure they are achieving personal goals.

15. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and student teachers, if assigned.

16. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

17. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

18. Follows the professional code of ethics and standards as presented by PA Department of Education.

19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to reach above and below the waist. Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects and keyboarding. Some stooping, bending and twisting of the body required. Ability to lift and/or carry supplies an/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, or move throughout the classroom for extended periods of time.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position. Salary and work year to be established through negotiations between the Mahanoy Area Education Association and the School Board. EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and School Code.
