**About the Position**:
The Payroll Technician will report to and be under general supervision of the Payroll Services Manager, as well as taking additional lead work direction from the Director. The Payroll Technician may also receive direction from other members of the Payroll and Certified Human Resources Specialist (CHRS) management team. The Payroll Technician must encompass a variety of day-to-day administrative and technical duties requiring knowledge of payroll, employment methods, and procedures in order to provide support for the campus community in analyzing and processing complex payroll and employment information. The Payroll Technician has full responsibility to exercise sound judgment and independently initiate, process, and complete a diverse range of unusually difficult and complex transactions in order to appoint, separate or change the pay and employment status of various categories of university employees. These tasks routinely involve the ability to analyze data to make accurate projections, rely on the Payroll Technician possessing a comprehensive knowledge of procedures, precedents, policies, and comprehension of collective bargaining agreements to ensure individuals are accurately paid. The position applies an in-depth knowledge of payroll and employment principles to support the daily functions of Workforce Administration, Time and Labor, Absence Management, Payroll Information Management System (PIMS), and all other Payroll/Employment software products. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

CMS Baseline or Peoplesoft HR experience. Experience in preparing and processing payroll/ personnel transactions in a CSU environment. Functional knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to wages.

License/Certifications

A Valid California Driver’s License.
