A Storekeeper I receives, stores and distributes equipment, materials and supplies. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in a warehouse where there is exposure to cold and heat. Work requires frequent bending, lifting, pushing and hauling heavy stock items.

II. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

The work of this class is distinguished from that of the class of Storekeeper II in that it involves no lead responsibilities.

III. TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF THE WORK (The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Positions may require some or all of these examples depending on the organization of work within the agency. This list is not inclusive. A position may require related duties not listed, if necessary, to accomplish the work of the agency.)

Examines incoming shipments to verify receipt of the correct type and quantity of materials and supplies.

Stores items at designated locations.

Reviews requisitions for accuracy and completeness.

Issues materials and supplies to personnel from warehouses and various City agencies.

May utilize standard business personal computer, allied software programs and the internet to research the availability of and record the receipt, inventory and distribution of materials, equipment and supplies.

Packs and unpacks materials and supplies.

Maintains records of materials and supplies.

Takes periodic physical inventory of stock ensuring that no items are missing.

Lifts, pushes, shoves and hauls heavy stock items.

Observes stores activities, reports irregular activities and missing items, and suggests improvements in security.

May operate such materials handling equipment as forklifts and hand trucks.

May drive vehicle to pick up and deliver materials and supplies for the storeroom.

Performs related work as required.

IV. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the procedures for receiving, storing and shipping materials and supplies.

Knowledge of the methods and procedures of taking inventory.

Ability to operate materials handling equipment.

Ability to utilize standard business computer software programs and the internet to perform routine research and to enter and maintain inventory and distribution of records.

Ability to maintain simple stock records.

V. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requirements - Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate and one year of experience in storing and issuing equipment and supplies or in performing office support work.

Equivalencies - Equivalent combination of education and experience.

VI. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES

Some positions in this class may require a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management.

Pay: $17.16 - $19.67 per hour
