**Duties**:

- You will maintain constant observation of the control room Control System for condition of equipment and keep watch log, maintain hourly readings, and answer telephone calls from outlying building.
- You will control the operation of four air compressor plants that supply compressed air.
- You will make preliminary diagnosis of trouble symptoms and recommend action to correct or shut down equipment to power plant supervisor.
- You will perform operational maintenance on mechanical equipment and may perform more extensive repairs during slack period, scheduled shut down or in emergencies.
- You will high-pressure boilers in emergencies and when assigned.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current MD Stationary Engineers license Class 1 or other state equivalent. An ASOPE or NIULP Class 1 license will also be accepted.

**Qualifications**:

- This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Maintaining utility service (steam, electricity, compressed air and water/wastewater treatment) to all vital production, research and quality assurance areas to prevent loss of production, vital testing, fires and/or explosions; 2) Making preliminary diagnosis of trouble symptoms to recommend action (e.g. correct issues, shut down equipment) to the power plant supervisor; 3) Conducting checks of equipment (generators, boilers, air compressors, electrical distribution systems) by reviewing load demand records, examining dispatch of utilities orders, and observing conditions reflected on control computers; 4) Performing extensive repairs during slack periods and scheduled shut downs to avoid mechanical malfunctions.- Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
