**Summary**:
To administer the Business Office of the district in such a way as to provide the best possible educational service with the financial resources available.

**Qualifications/Required Experience**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Business and/or Accounting
- Connecticut School Business Administrator SDE certification (085)
- Knowledge of and experience with school finances including federal and state reporting systems
- Experience with public entity account systems and procedures
- Experience with budgets in audit environments
- Experience with collective bargaining negotiations
- Experience with supervising support personnel
- Experience with supervising district-wide transportation systems

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
**1. Operational**:

- Communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages including finance, accounting investment management, budgeting, etc.
- Present clearly and accurately key financial information and management reports.
- Act as advisor to the Superintendent of Schools in the preparation of the annual school budget, and establish a program of budget forecasting and control for the school district.
- Act as an advisor on all questions relating to the financial affairs of the school system.
- Ensure that all expenditures meet requirements as set forth in the Board of Education policies, Town Charter, and any state or federal regulations.
- Manage accounting procedures that are adequate to record in detail all receipts and expenditures of school district funds.
- Assist Superintendent in State reporting requirements including preparation and filing of school facilities forms and financial reports.
- Provide data that concerns the business area of the school system to the Board of Education, administration and the public.
- Stay current with state guidelines related to school budget compliance.
- Coordinate student athletic, workers’ compensation, liability, automobile and property insurances, in accordance with the district’s programs.
- Make ongoing recommendations to ensure efficient operational functioning.

**2. Administration**:

- Make independent judgments in the absence of the Superintendent.
- Speak before audience with poise, voice control, and confidence.
- Serve as the Board of Education liaison with the fiscal authorities of the Town of Coventry.
- Maintain grant budgets for the school district.
- Act as an advisor to the Board of Education in negotiation all union contracts.
- Supervise the internal auditing of all school accounts.
- Attend Board of Education meetings and Transportation and Fiscal Subcommittee meetings.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate business office personnel. Oversee cross-training within the Business Office.

**3. Facilities**:

- Supervise Director of Physical Plant and Facilities, working with him/her to administer a program of plant operation and maintenance and security and property protection.

**4. Food Service**:

- Supervise Food Services Director, working with him/her to administer the school lunch program and cafeteria services.

**5. Transportation**:

- Develop and administer a transportation program to meet the Board of Education guidelines related to transportation to students to public schools within the school district
- Develop and administer a transportation program for students attending out-of-district schools, in accordance with State of Connecticut requirements.
- Coordinate with the Director of Pupil and Staff Support Services a transportation program to meet the needs of the district’s special education population.

**Other**:

- Assume other responsibilities at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
