**MCPS Official Job Description**
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, monitors student activities in
and around relocatable classrooms of a holding school. Supervises order of students as they enter and leave
relocatable classrooms, and maintains proper student decorum. Uses initiative and independent judgment to
follow through on matters to see that students are supervised and safe both inside and outside the facility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of applicable school regulations, practices, and
procedures, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge. Knowledge of student behavior management
techniques. Ability to supervise students as they enter and exit relocatable classrooms at school and
enforces safety rules and appropriate behavior standards. Ability to effectively supervise, communicate and
monitor students, staff, and others in and around a relocatable classroom environment. Ability to exhibit
considerable patience and demonstrated skills in working with children. Excellent human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Documented
successful experience working with children of elementary school age. Other combinations of applicable
education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform
effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to walk hallways, climb stairs and stand for extended periods of time both
indoors and outdoors during all types of weather.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors and supervises elementary students as they move into and out of relocatable classrooms of a holding school.
Maintains order and decorum of students around the relocatable classrooms area of a holding school.
Reinforces proper student behavior.
Provides a safe environment for students as they enter and exit relocatable classrooms of a holding school.
Provides daily updates to school administration regarding facility needs or incidents, particularly in the area of the relocatable classrooms.
Maintains safety for students and verifies the identity of anyone requesting information and location of a student by directing them to the main office.
Attends to students experiencing difficulties or engaging in antisocial behavior.
Provides for students’ emergency first aid needs.
Provides assistance to teachers in classroom activities.
Provides additional coverage, as needed, for main office operations, which may include clerical and non-instructional duties such as keeping daily attendance counts, maintenance of files and records, typing reports and routine correspondence, and reproduction of instructional materials
Understands and applies the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving.
Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
