**GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER**

**QUALIFICATIONS**:1. High school diploma or equivalent

2. Valid Driver’s License for the type of equipment to be driven, with no serious violation 3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in several areas of maintenance

**JOB GOAL**:The General Maintenance Worker performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and assists in modification of District grounds and landscapes. The General Maintenance Worker also performs maintenance on District-owned equipment and tools and makes repairs (within demonstrated capability) as directed. The General Maintenance Worker performs tasks to improve the function, appearance, and longevity of District buildings.

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Overview
- Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas and as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations. Assists the Groundskeeper in performing common tasks to take care of the grounds and landscaping throughout the district.

Safety
- Perform assignments related to ensuring all schools and district sites can safely open and function as assigned. This Includes working cooperatively with custodial employees during emergency operations.
- Perform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately.
- Monitor buildings and grounds to ensure safety, resolve problems or notify others as appropriate.
- Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairs whether they be during or after normal work hours.
- Ability to function as a MERT (medical emergency response team) member.

General Maintenance
- Recommend repairs or procedures that are beyond the scope of responsibilities, skill, or experience, outlining the work needed and specifications required of an outside contractor.
- Performs District-wide general maintenance and repairs on all building systems.
- Perform maintenance work such as concrete form, fence repair and installation of building materials.
- Ensures that ground maintenance equipment and building maintenance equipment are operational by performing routine and preventative maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and machines within reasonable capabilities.
- Perform work from elevated platforms.
- Have the knowledge to perform repairs safely using the proper hand and power tools.

Property Appearance
- Removes unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds, drains, manhole covers, etc., for debris; raking, sweeping and bagging leaves, debris, dirt and trash from grounds, sidewalks, and parking lots. Transport the trash to designated central collection points.

Winter
- Assists in preventing accidents resulting from snow or ice-covered walkways. Remove mowing decks and install snow removal equipment on related machinery. Safley operate snow removal equipment and spread sand and/or salt on snow
- or ice-covered surfaces.

Vehicles
- Safely operates vehicles and equipment such as pick-up trucks, tractors, or riding mowers and portable power tools and equipment such as saws, grass trimmers, snow/leaf blowers, sprayers, paint machines and other groundskeeping equipment by obeying applicable traffic laws and following operator instructions, and wearing appropriate safety items such as goggles, gloves, or other appropriate protective clothing.
- Performs delivery services by identifying supplies, materials, and equipment to be delivered from invoices or order forms, safely loading items on the delivery vehicle, safeguarding items during transit, delivering items to the correct department, and obtaining the appropriate signature for the receipt of the delivered items.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds. _
