Appeals Specialist

Responsibilities:

- Review and analyze medical documentation to ensure accurate coding and billing
- Resolution of denied claims: reconsiderations, appeals and correct claims
- Assign appropriate medical codes using ICD-9 and other coding systems
- Verify patient insurance coverage and process claims for reimbursement
- Follow up on unpaid claims and resolve any billing discrepancies
- Collaborate with medical providers and insurance companies to resolve billing issues
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding guidelines and regulations
- Ensure compliance with all relevant billing and coding standards

**Requirements**:

- Proven experience as a Medical Biller or in a similar role
- Understanding of modifiers
- Ability to read EOBs
- Knowledge of medical billing systems and procedures
- Familiarity with medical office operations and terminology
- Proficiency in medical coding, including DRG coding and ICD-9 coding
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing processes
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
