**Position Focus**:
The Museum Assistant is responsible for working open hours at the museum, opening and closing/securing the facility, providing Museum tours, assisting with Museum program development and instruction, and assisting with the Museum’s collections and exhibits.

**Qualifications**:

- A minimum age of 18 is required for this position
- High school graduate or G.E.D. Certificate
- Good knowledge of developing, implementing and leading programs or facility tours for all age groups
- Museum experience, education and programming experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal, oral, written and telephone communication skills
- Team-centric focus with the ability to foster a collaborative and productive work environment
- Experience planning, organizing, supervising part-time and/or seasonal employees is required
- Valid Class D driver’s license
- Other certifications may be required as deemed necessary

**Required Knowledge and Skills**:

- Have an understanding of Museum programming
- Must be able to work with the general population, including children, parents and staff and be able to recognize and take

appropriate action to correct safety hazards.
- Good knowledge of youth activities, arts, crafts, games and other activities for the general population.
- Must have a current First Aid, CPR and AED certification or willing to acquire certification.

- Ability to pass the Park District’s 15 passenger van training, in order to drive to various Park District and other locations
- Capacity to be very flexible due to the nature of the changing exhibitions and the Museum’s operational schedule
- Ability to prudently handle valuable artwork and historical items
- Capacity to understand the residents’ interests and be self-taught
- Ability to maintain historical items, information and records

**Hours**:
Hours of work are generally a combination of weekday, evening, and weekend based on the operational needs of the Museum and the Park District. Overtime hours may be required as directed and authorized by the Recreation Supervisor.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Communicates with the Recreation Supervisor on issues and activities related to the Depot Museum
- Reviews and maintains the policies and procedures outlined in the Itasca Park District Procedures Manual with respect to the safe

and effective operations of the Recreation & Facilities Department and Safety Program
- Manages and staffs the Museum during its open hours, including opening, closing and securing the facility
- Monitors the facility during open hours and performs light cleaning and disinfecting of the facility, as needed
- Checks and straightens the current exhibits as applicable, and works with the historical collections
- Records daily facility attendance and usage in the Visitor Log Book
- Develops, implements and conducts Museum programs and tours
- Establishes good working relationships with patrons, the community and the general public
- Attends scheduled staff meetings, as needed
- Develops and utilizes safe work habits while contributing in every possible manner to the safety of themselves, coworkers and the

general public
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Performs any additional job duties, which may be considered essential, as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor
