**About the role**:
**SUMMARY OF POSITION**

**What you'll do**:

- LEARN’s KidsPlay Program provides an organized gender specific athletic league for boys and girls in grades 3-8. The emphasis of KidsPlay is to provide an opportunity to participate in sports, build skills,and develop confidence in learning new and healthy fundamental lifestyle skills. The KidsPlay program requires a knowledgeable set of coaches for a successful program. A KidsPlay coach will be working in a fast-paced environment, and should be energetic while having the physical ability to be on their feet for long periods of time (standing, walking, and even running during sporting events). KidsPlay Coaches will be teaching relevant skills, tactics, and strategic techniques to students in order to reach team goals and individual milestones within specific sports offered by the program. The position entails monitoring and enhancing performance by providing developmental skill building, encouragement, and constructive feedback to a group of youth.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure the supervision and safety of assigned students at all times during program hours.- Evaluate performance and provide suitable feedback, balancing constructive criticism with positivity and motivation.- Assess strengths and weaknesses in a participant's performance and identify areas for further development.
- Adapt to the needs and interests of the group or individual participant.
- Facilitate successful practices using one’s knowledge and understanding of the current sport
- Demonstrate an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence

Provide organized and structured physical activity
- Encourage participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge, and techniques
- Ensures that participants train and perform to a high standard of health and safety at all times.
- Inspires confidence and self-esteem through motivation and skill building
- Acts as a positive role model, gaining the respect and trust of the people you work with.
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**

1. Graduation from High School
- Must pass district examination for Instructional Assistants (taken at time of interview)
- Experience working with youth is strongly desired.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES**
- Interest in working with, mentoring, and/or tutoring at-risk youth- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, school staff, and others- Ability to work as part of a team and act as a positive role model for students
- Ability to write basic reports summarizing events.
- Knowledge and experience with sports (Fall: Basketball & Cross Country, Spring: Flag Football & Olympic Handball), previous experience coaching are desired.

**LANGUAGE & COMPUTER SKILLS**
- The ability to speak Spanish Mandarin, Cantonese and Vietnamese is desired at many of our school sites

**PHYSICAL SKILLS**
- Must be able to lift and carry small loads (up to 25 lbs.) and stand for prolonged hours.

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Must complete Live Scan and obtain Department of Justice and FBI- Criminal Background Clearances, as well as Health Clearance (TB Test and COVID-19 vaccination).-
- Must be willing to work some evenings- Must be willing and able to travel anywhere in the region LEARN serves for a job assignment, off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
- Must be eligible to accept all KidsPlay Coach job assignments.

**Condition of Employment & Benefits**:

- This is a Part-Time Casual, non-benefited, non-exempt, hourly position. This
- Monday through Friday, during program hours, which is primarily after school and
- occasionally on weekends. Hours of work will vary, but will not exceed 29 hours per
- week; specific times and schedules vary, depending upon the school and the needs of
- the program.

The work calendar for Youth Leaders and all other part-time casual field staff aligns with
- the academic calendars of our partner school districts. The job has recess breaks
- during fall, winter, spring and summer. The job resumes after every break and staff are
- expected to return to work on the date requested by LEARN.

The pay range for this role is:

- 21 - 21 USD per hour (All Locations)
