**Job Description Summary**

The Medical Assistant/Scribe is a clinical role in the Mental Health Department and reports to the Mental Health Director. This position is hourly, full-time, and could be on-site or hybrid depending on need.

The Medical Assistant/Scribe is responsible for aiding our clinic in providing exceptional adult Mental Health, pediatric Mental Health, and Mental Health services to transgender and gender-diverse patients.

**Objectives & Responsibilities**
- Work primarily with Mental Health providers and with Primary Care providers on a collaborative basis to coordinate patient care.
- Active participation in patient care including anticipatory preparation for mental health maintenance and chronic mental health care needs, rooming patients, obtaining histories and vital signs, arranging referral and diagnostic testing appointments and performing other procedures as determined relevant to the individual patient.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills concerning appropriate documentation of allergies, medication updates, immunizations, past medical and mental health history diagnosis, current stressors, and any other information that is added to the medical record of an individual patient.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the current and future needs of the patient in both chronic mental health care and mental health maintenance and is able to use decision making skills to help patients meet those needs following appropriate protocols.
- Overall responsibility for the flow of the provider’s patient schedule, able to make decisions concerning adding a patient to the schedule upon appropriate approval, providing needed information to the front desk staff concerning the work flow in the patient care area and keeping the provider informed of issues that affect the efficiency of care during the session.
- Document the dictated patient history, physical examination, family, social, and past medical and mental health histories as well as document procedures, lab results, and any other information pertaining to the patient’s encounter in pre and post charting.
- Support patient care and the mental health team by anticipating administrative functions requiring support including but not limited to preparing prior authorizations, participating with the approval process for medications as appropriate, monitoring clinical messaging, supporting providers with completion of patient follow up letters, updating the medical record with patient information under the guidance of the provider, and at times acting as liaison between patient, organization, and provider.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of shared responsibility to maintain a beautiful and orderly practice environment.
- Depending on organization of roles within the practice, may share responsibility with other medical assistants for the quality, safety and laboratory check systems in the clinical environment including Quality Assurance for Point of Care testing.
- Depending on organization of roles within the practice, may share responsibility for appropriate monitoring and stocking of supplies for the clinical and administrative needs of the practice.

**Qualifications & Experience**
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of relevant experience in a Mental Health or other healthcare setting is required
- CMA certification is preferred but not required
- Experience with a busy environment, requiring strong multitasking skills is required
- Past experience working with transgender/gender-diverse communities and nuerodiverse populations is a strong asset
- Excellent interpersonal communication and skills whether in person, via the telephone and/or in writing
- Advanced typing/computer skills
- Able to work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
