**The Team You’ll Work With**

The Career Advisor will work with the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) in partnership

with Mayor’s Office for Talent and Workforce Development (NYC Talent), and NYC Department of

Small Business Services (SBS). The NYC Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities will build upon its

robust workforce initiative **NYC: ATWORK** to focus on recruitment and engagement of NYC residents

with disabilities who are unemployed and underemployed, to expand the talent pipeline to meet the

demands of businesses, both public and private sectors, in creating a diverse inclusive workforce.

**The Problems You’ll Solve**

The **Career Advisor** will provide job seekers with guidance and support on how to improve their hiring

chances through one-on-one sessions, facilitation of workshops and trainings, as well as arranging for

networking opportunities with prospective employers, etc.

**Responsibilities**:

- Have career exploration discussions with clients to narrow down the type of career the

individual is interested in.
- Evaluate a client’s background, training, and education to help the client develop realistic

career goals as well.
- Assists participants in career preparation by identifying career and vocational opportunities to

build a realistic employability plan to achieve employment.
- Responsible for a variety of workforce development activities including recruitment, intake,

assessment, eligibility determination, case management, enrollment, counseling,

education/employment placement, and follow-up of program participants and making referrals

to other services as needed.
- Oversee customer care through continuity and complete services including timely

documentation and review of services to customers.
- Meet individually with customers to develop an Individual Employment plan and assist with

locating appropriate services to meet the plan objectives.
- Identify potential employers and develop work site agreements, contracts, or related

documents.
- Conduct follow-up and evaluation of participant placements to provide counseling and

problem-solving for clients and employers.
- Participate in program and monthly staff meetings.
- Make ongoing follow-up calls with job seekers and employers to determine employment status

and satisfaction with services delivered.
- Meet monthly placement targets and report on results.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customers.
- Manage database, regularly update notes and document employment leads, etc.
- Teach/facilitate workshops on How to Strengthen and Tailor your resume, Cover Letter writing,

preparing for an interview, the basics of networking, and how to search for a job online.
- Remain in constant contact with clients, motivating and guiding them.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**About You**

**Minimum Qualification Requirements**:
You’ll need either:

- A master’s degree from an accredited college with a major in counseling, social work, human

services, human resource management, psychology, business, disabilities, or public

administration, and two (2) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory

experience in:

- business/non-profit development, retention, expansion, and relocation or assisting

businesses/not-profits in accessing public and private services and programs including

workforce development; or
- analysis of business/not-profit records and documents to determine the eligibility of

businesses/not-profits for programs and services; or
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access, economic, market, or site research and analysis

for business and neighborhood development; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in counseling, social work,

human services, human resource management, psychology, business, disabilities, or public

administration, and three (3) years of full-time, satisfactory experience with a primary focus as

described above; or,
- An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredit
