**Job Responsibilities/Requirements**:
The House Mentor will help ensure the safety, security, and overall well-being of the children at Bluebonnet Haven.

This position is **15 hour shifts** - you work 6am - 9pm. It will be a scheduled 4 days on, then you have 4 days off. One 4 day off period every six weeks, you will be on call

Each House Mentor must meet the following qualifications before the employee can be counted in the child/caregiver ratio:
1. **Be at least: 21 years old**

2**. Must have clean background**

3. **Have either**:
A. **A high school diploma or high school equivalency,** such as a General Educational Development (GED) from a program recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TPSAC), or other similar educational entity from another state; or

B. Documentation to verify high school equivalency from home schooling. The documentation must adequately address basic competencies that would be otherwise met by a high-school diploma or a GED, including basic reading, writing, and math skills; and

3. Be able to read, write, and communicate with co-workers, medical personnel, and other persons necessary to care for the child’s needs.

The House Mentors will serve as positive role models for the children at Bluebonnet Haven by modeling for them correct life skills, social skills, professional skills, behavior management, coping skills, and positive self-esteem.

The House Mentors will include the kids in all life skills around the house such as cooking, cleaning, meal planning, unloading and putting away groceries, dressing appropriately, and hygiene needs.

The House Mentor must be familiar with and well versed with each child’s Individual Service Plan in the house. The House Mentor must know the child’s treatment goals, triggers, and coping skills.

The House Mentor must complete and turn in all paperwork as required. It must be completed accurately, in entirety, and in the required timeframe.

The House Mentor is responsible for making sure the assigned house is being kept in an orderly and clean fashion and up to Minimum Standards and DFPS Contract compliance.

The House Mentor will perform routine bedroom, house checks to make sure that all areas are safe for the children and staff.

The House Mentor will need to have effective and ongoing communication skills to keep a running dialogue between the Lead Mentors, Supervisor, and Shift Supervisors, and children to help ensure positive continuity of care for our children.

The House Mentors will be expected to attend Client Support Meetings, TEAM meetings, all required trainings, and any other meetings/trainings deemed appropriate and necessary, when requested.

The House Mentors will help serve as liaisons for the children in the houses and professional staff so that their concerns are passed on to the correct staff.

The House Mentors will coordinate and actively participate with the children in activities that occur on and off the campus. This includes board games, arts and crafts, outdoor recreational activities, offsite service/community projects, and any other indoor and outdoor activities.

House Mentors will be placed to work where they are needed at that time. This may be in different houses or different classrooms, and can be moved around as needed. House Mentors will be required to work on-call shifts when necessary as designated by the Supervisor. These on-call schedules will be posted in each house.

House Mentors will utilize the TBRI® and Satori training they have received in order to help manage behavioral concerns in our children. The TBRI® principles of empowerment, connecting, and correcting will be used continuously throughout the daily routines of our children and the de-escalation and restraint techniques of Satori will be used as needed with our children to help to better control crisis situations.

The House Mentors must maintain professional boundaries with all Bluebonnet Haven employees and demonstrate professional and courteous working relationships with all Bluebonnet Haven employees and all outside entities.

The House Mentor must at all times demonstrate professional, healthy boundaries with the children at Bluebonnet Haven.

The House Mentor must adhere to Bluebonnet Haven’s Confidentiality Policies.
