SALARY RANGE: $37,593.00 - $40,280.00 ANNUALLY
PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
A Painter I applies paint, varnish and other finishes to walls, floors, furniture, buildings and structures. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed indoors and outdoors where incumbents are exposed to inclement weather and heights from ladders and scaffolding. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
SELECTION PROCESS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques and equipment of the painting trade.
- Knowledge of the characteristics of common types of paints and finishes.
- Ability to prepare surfaces for painting.
- Ability to erect scaffolding.
- Ability to follow safety procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Have Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have one years of experience in painting work.
OR
NOTES (EQUIVALENCIES): Have six months of additional experience in painting work may be substituted for each year of the high school or GED requirement. Completion of one year of the required coursework in a painting curriculum in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver’s license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management may be required.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
NOTE: Those eligibles who are under final consideration for appointment to some positions in this class will be required to authorize the release of criminal conviction information.
