**Mission Statement**
Neziner Hebrew School (NHS) is part of the larger Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel (BZBI) community in Center City Philadelphia. We aim to build a program together in which **students are engaged in participatory and joyful learning in conversation with Jewish texts and traditions, within a supportive community of peers and educators**. Our teachers are essential partners in achieving this vision and valued members of our community.

**About the Fourth/Fifth Grade Class**
Students explore themes related to justice, truth, and peace through engaging with Torah (biblical and rabbinic texts), tefillah (prayer) and Jewish History. Students will also develop and continue building their Hebrew reading skills.

Class meets on:

- **Shabbat (Saturday) from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM**:

- **Wednesday from 4:00 - 6:00 PM**
- Is excited to work with, teach, and learn from students
- Has formal or informal education experience or experience working with youth in other settings (i.e. summer camps, youth groups, after school programs, etc)
- Has strong Hebrew reading and writing skills
- Fluent spoken Hebrew is NOT a requirement but is an advantage
- Has a solid working familiarity with Jewish culture, community, holidays, history and Torah (such as Bible stories, important values or texts, etc)
- Is passionate about creating a classroom culture that values every individual and their contributions

**Main Responsibilities and Other Important Information**
As a teacher in the School, you are expected to:

- Create a safe classroom environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, build community with one another, and feel respected and welcomed by you and their peers.
- Adhere to the curriculum and learning goals as defined by the Director, teach in a manner consistent with them and abide by the values of the BZBI synagogue community.
- Submit required employee paperwork and background checks as communicated by the Director and synagogue staff.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled during the year by the Director in coordination with the faculty.
- Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans no later than the Thursday of the week prior to the week in which the lesson will be taught. **_Lesson plans must include links to, or copies of, ALL media or outside material you intend to share/use with students_**.**:

- Open the classroom 15 minutes before the scheduled start of class, and remain until every child has been dismissed. You are responsible for ascertaining that children are dismissed only according to the authorization provided by the parent(s) or legal guardian(s). If virtual, you are expected to open your virtual classroom (i.e. Zoom session) 10 minutes before the scheduled start of class.
