Department Summary: The Plant Growth Center (PGC) is a state-of-the-art greenhouse center to support research and instruction. It has 6 research greenhouses and 1 educational greenhouse as well as housing 12 plant growth chambers located in the basement of the building. Position Summary:
Join our team at the UCLA Plant Growth Center (PGC) - a state-of-the-art greenhouse center to support cutting edge research and instruction. Our advanced facilities houses 7 greenhouses and a suite of 12 plant growth chambers. As the steward of the UCLA Plant Growth Center (PGC), you'll be at the helm, driving our operations forward to support groundbreaking research and transformative teaching through sophisticated techniques and software to orchestrate the perfect growth conditions for our specimens. Some of the main duties include training researchers in the proper care of plants; planting, pruning, and propagation; assisting with experiments; manage soil, plantings, pesticides and the overall environment of the greenhouses as well as maintaining equipment and facilities to ensure seamless operations across all facets of our center.

Salary & Compensation: *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. - Experience with pest abatement methods and programs. (required)
- Demonstrated ability to manage all components of a research and instructional greenhouse facility. Including ability to supervise, direct, and evaluate PGC personnel. (required)
- Skill of initiating and maintaining the appropriate level of plant care in elements of watering, soils, fertilizers, transplanting and other elements. Demonstrated high level of knowledge of plant propagation and cultivation. (required)
- Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and others in plant research on the full range of issues. Interpersonal skills to maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff and students of diverse backgrounds. (required)
- Ability to train groups and individuals at multiple levels of experience and knowledge in plant experimentation and care. (required)
- Skill in designing and managing experiments in plant physiology and plant molecular biology. Knowledge and skill to make original contributions to research. (required)
- Demonstrated writing skills to prepare concise technical documentation, maintain accurate data records and prepare notifications. (required)
- Demonstrated analytical skills in assessing alternative solutions, developing and implementing a plan. (required)
- Ability to work independently, set priorities and follow through on assignments with mínimal direction. (required)
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and ability to maintain environmental conditions in the greenhouses and in the plant growth chambers. Working computer knowledge to use specialized environment control software for the greenhouses and the plant growth chambers. (required)
- Working knowledge of PGC equipment and the ability to analyze and repair PGC equipment or to contact the appropriate service engineer. (preferred)
- Demonstrated knowledge of plant disease and nutrition. Ability to plan and affect programs to solve disease and poor nutrition. Knowledge on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program to minimize the use of pesticides. (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:

- Educational training in horticulture, botany, plant physiology or plant molecular biology; preferably a bachelor's or master's degree level (required)
- California Qualified Applicator Certificate(or license), Categories A (Residential, Industrial and Institutional) and D (Plant Agriculture) (required) Or
- or has ability to obtain the license within 6 months of hire (required)
- California Driver License and ability to drive and pick up supplies and equipment whenever necessary (preferred)
