The PV Designer is responsible for assessing feasibility and designing residential and commercial photovoltaic installation projects. Some battery system design work is also required. PV Designer will work under the Director of Residential Projects, oversee other surveyors / designers and will also interact with the Director of Sales, Installation Foreman, and the Sales team.

This role will be responsible for conducting accurate site surveys and translating survey findings into usable and installable PV and power storage designs. This role requires an understanding of the NEC, OSHA safety regulations, and local EDC requirements (Solar States works mostly in PECO territory, but often has projects in PPL, PSEG, and ACE territories) An understanding of financial implications of difficult installs is also important.

A successful PV Designer is expected to:

- Schedule and conduct Engineering Surveys of customer’s homes, assessing and documenting information pertaining to the customer’s:

- Main Service Panel, and existing Electrical system
- Roof Surface Condition
- Roof Structure
- Optimal conduit/conductor routes from the array to the MSP
- Hazards for Installers
- Other information about the home that may impact the project
- Operate a drone and conduct a drone survey where direct roof access is not feasible
- Work independently but alongside others on the team to become more efficient
- Follow through with projects that require roof certifications and coordinate timely structural roof analysis with homeowner (often requires creation of an access point to the roof cavity)
- Working with a 3rd party document set partner, translate design survey information from design phase into an approved and code compliant document set (permit drawings)
- Stay abreast and adapt to industry trends; continuously learnings about battery systems, EV chargers, technical developments, troubleshooting, maintenance, structural analysis, and more
- Develop and maintain strong communication with the Sales and Management teams in order to clearly create and plan projects to make installations optimally efficient.

**REPORTING STRUCTURE**

This role will report to the Director of Residential Projects. This role coordinates with:

- Director of Sales
- Installation Foreman
- Peer Drone Surveyors/PV Designers
- Sales Team
- Back office Operations Team

**PREREQUISITES FOR THIS ROLE**
- At least one year experience in the solar survey or design field OR at least one year experience conducting site surveys for general construction projects that included roof and/or electrical elements
- A working knowledge of the NEC with an ability to read the NEC for specific issues, and particularly Article 690 (solar)
- Active Driver’s License
- Ability to read conventional PV plans and single line engineering diagrams
- Familiarity working in common software environments such as the Google Suite of business programs
- OSHA 10
- NABCEP PV Associate or OR an existing eagerness to sit for and pass the NABCEP exam
- Comfort setting up a 24’ ladder and working at heights that require OSHA fall protection
- Ability to lift 50 lbs

**SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (NOT PREREQUISITES)**
- Competency in AutoCAD or Google Sketch Up
- Experience with Copper CRM, or experience with a CRM-centric operating environment
- An engineering degree and an EIT certification
- FAA Part 107 certification for drone work
- More than 3 years experience as a PV and/or battery installer and/or designer
- NABCEP PVIP Certification, OR an existing eagerness to sit for and pass the NABCEP exam (which would be at Company’s; expense and time)
- OSHA 30 certification (or at least OSHA 10)

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
