Ahlstrom is seeking a Utility Operator to support its Paper Machine crew in Windsor Locks, CT. As a Utility Operator, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to aid in the efficient and safe production of a medical paper machine. Employees work a 4x4 12-hour rotating schedule, meaning you will work 12-hour shifts and rotate from day shift to night shift every 8 days.

**We Offer**:

- $20/hour to start, and then a full rate of $30.05 once certified in the position (About 6-8 weeks)
- $0.30 per hour 2nd shift differential, $0.46 3rd shift differential

The **Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities** of this role include:

- Accurately record, either electronically or manually, the actual usage of all raw materials and chemicals used.
- Assist in paper machine wash-ups, clothing changes, and daily machine cleaning after breaks or shutdowns.
- Assist Pulper Operator in the locating, transporting and handling of raw materials and /or chemicals by opening and stacking wood and staging fiber.
- Complies with all Lock-Out/Tag-Out and Confined Space procedures.
- Identify and immediately report any unsafe act, condition or potential hazard to Supervisor or responsible personnel.
- Locate and transport purchased raw materials and/or chemicals from inventory by inventory lot or ID number for use in pulp and/or chemical formulations.
- Respond to instructions from multiple sources of authority.
- Prepare chemical formulations in accordance with written instructions.
- Work in sequence using many components with a high degree of accuracy.
- Observe the conditions of and quarantine if necessary any unacceptable or questionable raw materials and/or chemicals used in the manufacturing process and communication thereof to Supervisor.
- Understand the area that is assigned for housekeeping responsibility and the level of cleanliness that is expected in that area.
- Understands and complies with general, departmental and job specific safety rules, as well as the Site Safety plan at Ahlstrom.
- Understands and complies with Mill Environmental guidelines, as well as federal and state mandated RCRA Waste Handling and Recycling Procedures.

**Minimum Occupational Requirements**:

- Minimum 2 years of experience as a machine operator or member of a manufacturing machine crew
- Must be able to make decisions and/or judgments with well-defined scope.
- Must be able to wear/use required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Must be able to work safely, independently, quickly and accurately.

**Physical Occupational Requirements**:

- Must possess a sufficient level of agility for climbing catwalks, working around moving machinery with hot surfaces, and working in areas with slippery surfaces.
- Ability to perform physical movements such as bending and/or lifting
- Ability to frequently work in wet environments.
- Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs
- Work at heights and near rapidly moving machinery
- Operate lift-truck and hoists
- Work in an environment that is not temperature controlled

$31.25/hr
