**POSITION: Full-Time Campus Police Officer I**: Campus Police Officer I; Public Safety, Haverhill (100 Elliott Street) and Lawrence Campuses (45 Franklin Street), 40 hours/week; AFSCME Unit II Position

**SUMMARY**: Northern Essex Community College (NECC) Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking applicants for a police officer, CPO I. The current NECC Department of Public Safety was created in October 2018 and consists of a Chief, a Lieutenant, Communications Specialist, Police Officers, and a contract security company that employs an account manager, shift supervisors and approximately 10 patrol guards. The Department of Public Safety is looking to add additional police officers into this hybrid agency that utilizes both police and security to bring the highest level of protection and service to the NECC community.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Contributing to the team effort of maintaining a presence in the community that helps to deter crime and provide support to citizens
- Collaborating in building strong relationships with community members, upholding best practices of Community Oriented Policing
- Providing a police presence at major public events to ensure public safety
- Identifying potential criminal activity or other hazardous situations and takes proper actions to protect citizens and property
- Helping to secure crime scenes and process evidence
- Responding to calls for service; observing violations; sending referrals to the Dean of Students, making arrests or processing citations when necessary
- Conducting investigations by gathering evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses
- Documenting observations and actions by radioing information; completing reports
- Participating in campus internal processes including, but not limited to hearings for campus code of conduct, Title IX, and Human Resources investigations
- Testifying in court regarding criminal investigations and citations
- Maintaining safe traffic conditions by monitoring and directing traffic and enforcing violations
- Enforcing laws and ordinances; investigating collisions on campus; reporting unsafe streets and facilities
- Operating such equipment as two-way radios, teletypes, facsimile transmitters or receivers, base stations, public address system, emergency medical equipment, office machines, and firearms.
- Performing related duties such as cooperating and sharing information with other agencies; notifying designated personnel of emergencies; writing reports such as activity reports, daily logs, investigative reports and stolen vehicle recovery reports; maintaining records on lost-and-found items, criminal records and files on known criminals; assisting in the evacuation of residents in fire drills; administering first aid to injured persons; and raising and lowering flags.
- Ability to make decisions in emergency situations while maintaining a calm manner.
- Responsible for the efficient performance of all duties in conformance with the rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and orders.
- Perform specific duties and responsibilities as required by the Chief of Police or his/her designee

**Job Requirements**: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Be eligible for certification as a law enforcement officer by the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POSTC) after satisfying all requirements.
- Must possess a high school diploma or have passed the High School Equivalency Testing Program (HiSET), formerly known as the GED
- Graduation from an approved MPTC full-time police academy or have equivalent training that meets the exemption requirements of POSTC and MPTC or must successfully complete an entry-level academy operated by or approved by the Massachusetts State Police or the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC)
- Ability to pass an extensive national background investigation and CORI Check as a condition of employment. No person, who has been convicted of a felony or any offense punishable under M.G.L. Chapter 94C (drug law violations); or has been convicted of a misdemeanor and has been confined to any jail or house of correction as punishment for said crime, M.G.L. Chapter 22 C section 14, will be considered for employment.
- Prior to appointment, must possess a valid unrestricted license to carry a firearm (large capacity) and maintain a valid unrestricted license to carry a firearm throughout your employment in accordance with MGL Ch. 140 sec. 13
- Must have the ability to pass the Municipal Police Training Counsel (MPTC) firearms course of training as prescribed by the MPTC firearms curriculum.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer in accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 22C Section 63.
