The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a full-time Research Technician position to join our Neuroscience laboratory at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. We seek an intelligent individual to participate in a mouse neural circuits lab studying psychiatric disorders. The successful applicant will work full-time directly with investigators, performing duties as necessitated by ongoing experiments. The selected incumbent will present good judgment and the ability to work without continuous supervision.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Mouse colony husbandry of transgenic mouse lines
- Histology: tissue sectioning & staining
- Order inventory
- Stereotaxic surgery implanting custom micro drives and viral infusions.
- Building custom micro drives for implantation
- Behavioral testing mice
- Scoring behavioral tests
- Assist in data analysis via MATLAB.
- Support on-going experiments as needed by investigators.
**Minimum Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related science
- 1-year of experience with animal behavior
- 1-year of experience in MATLAB coding
- 1-year of experience in programming Arduino microprocessors.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Previous experience in vivo electrophysiology recordings preferred.
