About BridgeUP

BridgeUP is a network of programs that provide comprehensive and long-term support to youth from low-income and underrepresented communities with the intention of making a transformative impact on their lives. Programs within the BridgeUP Network are designed to support NYC teens reach their academic and developmental potential. In addition to the academic support, mentorship, and networking opportunities offered through these programs, BridgeUP encourages all of its youth to explore and pursue activities that spark their interests.

Two of the network’s more comprehensive programs, BridgeUP:CORE and BridgeOUT _(herein, “The Programs”) _are located at a parochial high school in the South Bronx, NY, and work in tandem to support their Scholars as they develop the skills, confidence, and mindset necessary to become innovative agents of change in their own lives and communities.

BridgeUP:CORE _is a comprehensive college/post-secondary readiness program that uses a holistic and highly customized approach to support NYC teens reach their academic and developmental potential. From the 9th grade through high school graduation, BridgeUP provides its Scholars with long-term mentorship, academic support, and access to engaging learning opportunities that develop one’s social-emotional competencies and fosters academic independence, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity._

Primary Responsibilities Reporting to the BridgeUP Program Coaches, Tutors play a pivotal role in delivering an invaluable out-of-school time experience for our Scholars.
- Serve as a positive role model to BridgeUP Scholars, demonstrating professionalism, and modeling and encouraging positive work habits;
- Promote and encourage active Scholar participation in group activities designed to build community amongst BridgeUP participants, as well as develop Scholars’ social and emotional competencies;
Create & maintain a safe learning environment for Scholars, Staff, and Tutors during program activities by utilizing best practices for classroom and behavior management and by upholding BridgeUP’s protocols & procedures;
- Check-in with Program Coaches to coordinate daily activities/plans and discuss Scholar issues as they emerge;
- Support Program Coaches in facilitating workshops, by providing set-up support _(tech, materials, handouts, etc.)_, encouraging active Scholar participation, and skillfully employing classroom & behavior management practices;
- Attend required meetings and trainings;
- Perform other duties assigned.

Skills & Experience
- Recently graduated from a 4 year college, or currently enrolled in a 4 year college, preferably in Junior /Senior year;
- Previous experience as an academic tutor;
- Previous experience working with teenagers (tutor, mentor, coach, camp counselor, etc.)
- Previous experience/knowledge of project-based learning desired
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills;
- Strong learning orientation; value, accept and incorporate direct feedback;
- Commitment to working with adolescents from low-income communities within New York City;
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Tutor Hours _(Tutoring Schedule can accommodate your College Semester calendars)_
- 2 - 4 afternoon shifts are available per week
- School Year: Generally (flexible) between the hours of 2:00 pm and 6:15pm, Monday through Thursday;
- Summer Session: Generally (flexible) between the hours of 10am and 4pm Monday through Thursday, with occasional Fridays as needed
- Work up to 16 hours per week

Work Environment
- Parochial high school in South Bronx, NY
- In person, pending or school closings etc.
