Medical Laboratory Technician 1,

**Minimum Qualifications**

Minimum Qualifications:

- Associate degree as a medical laboratory technician; or
- Completion of at least 45 semester credit hours of college coursework and a six-month medical laboratory technology training course; or
- Associate degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences and 6 months of satisfactory experience in medical laboratory work; or
- Completion of at least 45 semester credit hours of college coursework including 6 hours in general chemistry, 6 hours in inorganic chemistry, 12 hours in biology, and 3 hours in mathematics and 6 months of satisfactory experience in medical laboratory work; or
- High school graduation or the equivalent and completion of a satisfactory combination of education and experience in an acceptable laboratory. This combination may include completion of a vocational-technical program and 2 years of medical laboratory experience; completion of a structured medical laboratory technology program and 1 year of experience; 3 years of experience; or completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course of 50 weeks' duration and 1 year of experience.

In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Medical Laboratory Technician 1 at Nathan Kline Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

**Duties Description**

As a Medical Laboratory Technician 1, your duties will include:

- Receiving, processing, and verifying receipt of specimens.
- Preparing specimens for analysis and ensuring they are labeled correctly.
- Entering data into laboratory management system
- Cleaning and sterilizing equipment

or unscheduled maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment and work areas are also required.
