**Position Summary**:
This position is responsible for examining and reviewing legal documents, which are prescribed by law to be recorded or filed in the Register of Deeds office and administering all requirements as set forth in the Wisconsin State Statutes and Wisconsin Administrative Code.

**SUPERVISION**
This position acts as the departmental supervisor in the absence of the Register of Deeds.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

This position will be responsible for assisting the Register of Deeds in their duties, summarized as follows below:

- Provides customer service to internal and external customers.
- Provides direction to Register of Deeds staff and business partners on all issues relating to recording, indexing, archiving, and retrieval of real property records and other instruments as required by Wisconsin Statutes.
- Interprets, explains, and applies policies, regulations, laws, and procedures according to Wisconsin State Statutes with reference to vital records and real property records.
- Serves as a Notary Public.
- Prepares letters, memoranda, reports, and other correspondence as needed.
- Assists the ROD in providing oversight ensuring statutory requirements are met for the recording, archiving, and retrieval of vital & property records.
- Works with the State Vital Records Office utilizing the State Vital Records Information System [SVRIS] to file, maintain and issue vital records, including birth, death, marriage, and divorce records per Chapter 69, Wisconsin State Statutes
- Work in and Generates reports from Landlink, Statewide Vital Record Information System, and the Department of Revenue’s website.
- Examines various vital & real property records presented for recording to ensure compliance with Wisconsin State Statutes and Walworth County Ordinances.
- Assist the Register of Deeds in financial reporting, recording and budgeting for the department.
- Balances reports to ensure accurate reporting of records and proper fee collection.
- Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.

**Education and/or Experience**
High school plus two additional years of formal preparation, and two to three years of relevant prior experience. Proven experience in ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as well as ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Proven experience with real estate and legal terminology.

This position has authority to make decisions that are within general procedures and protocols; supervision is available as required or requested.
